Ah yes, it’s been a while since they’ve had a nebulous Dave Taylor type hockey ops consultant who doesn’t do anything.

Nill mentioned Oettinger, Heiskanen, Hintz, Peterson, and Robertson as the new core.
"I don't see us taking a big dip, and I think we've got a chance of starting to rise over the next 2 to 3 years because of this core group together."
Nill also mentioned he might move secondary core players to make cap space.

“He’s my eyes and ears out there,” Nill said. “I’m down in Dallas and I don’t get an opportunity all the time to get out there and see games anymore. My job now is to manage people and he now is my eyes and ears out there. When we make a decision on a trade, make a decision on signing a free agent, he’s going to have major input in that.”

While most of Peverley’s time in the Stars front office was spent helping develop the team’s prospects, he will now do a little bit of everything: pro scouting in the AHL and NHL, understanding the top players in the draft with director of amateur scouting Joe McDonnell, looking for free agents in Europe and in the NCAA, and speaking with head pro scout Craig Bonner about potential trade targets and free agent acquisitions.

“The past few years, I’ve been looking and wanted to do more, and I’ve expressed that to Jim,” Peverley said. “In my job so far already, I’ve been lucky that although I was doing development, I really had my hands in everything already [watching other draft prospects and international free agents].”

Nill: “He’s one of those guys that keeps grabbing more and more. He’s doing player development and all of a sudden, he’s looking at free agents, he’s helping with the amateur draft. He just kept grabbing more and more. You love to see that.”
