Jack Campbell is 7-0 this season. Turns out maybe having a goalie development coach is a big deal.

Jason Spezza has just entered the top-100 of all-time NHL leaders in points.

It was a pleasure having him here and getting to watch him up close for several years. He’s on the very short list of players who have come through here who just see the game on a completely different level and make mind boggling passes that I wouldn’t even try in a video game. In fact that list is probably just Zubov, Richards, and Spezza. Klingberg shows flashes of that level occasionally.

The old man even had a sweet shootout goal last night. He lost his legs real suddenly, but I doubt he’ll ever lose his hands.

Great (paywalled) article on Campbell, from his disastrous time here to his 8-0-0 start with Toronto:

This gets to the challenge of how the RFA/waiver system works to force teams to make decisions on guys sooner than some are ready. You can't just park a kid down in the AHL forever to let them work through the mental part of the game while giving them the occasional tryout at the NHL level. By the time the Stars traded his rights, he was 24 years old and had burned through two contracts over six pro seasons.

He sounds like a guy who nearly couldn't handle the mental side of the pro game and needed the reset where there were zero expectations or pressure to refind what made him good. Good for him. Far too many guys aren't able to take the next step in their mid 20s after failing at their first stop. His road to getting real NHL playing time was a long one. Many guys would give up and wouldn't keep hammering away in the minors until they're 27 years old.

The most surprising part of this trade is that Nemeth is still in the show.

And just like Connauton last year, this will not fix their main problem of shitty goaltending.

Nemeth was a scratch on Detroit at some points of the season and he still fetched a 4th.

Huh. Well I guess Joe Sakic agreed with me because they just traded Pateryn for Dubynk LOL.

Sakic seems to be pretty good at this GM thing. So is Yzerman. I guess it’s much like the 90s where both of those guys continue to outshine Modano.

He almost didn’t. But those Leafs were not gonna let that happen. That was a wild game.

If he had won 11 in a row as a starter, I would care.

Speaking of the Leafs.

The only thing we have in common with them is enjoying San Jose's sloppy seconds. I had no idea Thornton signed with them.

VERY NSFW face injury to a Texas Stars player. Unspoiler at your own risk.

^Duder caught an errant skate going down for a block in a non-playoff AHL game. He deserves a *fargin'* call-up just for that alone.

Hopefully Zubov gets paid up front. Think he got stiffed on some amounts owed from his previous KHL gig.

What a strange way to write Janmark and a 5th to Vegas for a 2nd and a 3rd.

Roope Hintz is the Stars' Masterton nominee. Another interesting (or not so interesting) note - four other former Stars are nominated by their respective current teams:

So Lindblom is going to win it two years in a row, even though Johns should have won it last year, and now his career is done. Classic Dallas Stars treatment LOL.

Also, LOL @ Val being nominated for overcoming being Val LOL.

Nichushkin is nominated? Holy *poo poo*. I guess he really persevered over his own pouting about not being good enough to deserve top line and top PP minutes.

Hope Campbell wins it. Other than a one-week spell, he's been lights-out for Toronto. 17-2-2.
