For what it's worth the Wild's Jordan Greenway (112 games 28 goals) had similar goal totals to Tufte (121 games 34 goals), though Greenway had more assists.
When drafted Tufte was compared to Bjugstad and was a project. Tufte's game is better suited for the pro game then college.

A project at 25th overall? Not bashing, but aren't projects supposed to come from the later rounds?

Later in the first round? Not necessarily. Remember, a lot of these kids are 18 (or even 17) years old when they are drafted. Unless it is someone like Miro, McDavid, Matthews, etc. I'd almost consider every draft pick a project.

Drafting is a crap shoot for sure, but 25 is pretty high. I’ll have to confer with Al on that one.

I have to search for my own posts because I don’t have the data anymore.
But here it is:
http://thestarsfans.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 40#p379468

It’s around a 50% chance of being a bust. 35% of being a fringe or depth player. 15% of being a high end talent.

Or a 50% chance of being a player. That’s actually better than I would have thought. And yes, almost all draftees are projects in general, but a 1st rounder even at 25 is usually not described as a “project”.

Tufte was definitely a project, because he had all the "tools", but had never been tested in juniors because he was a high school kid in the US. So he was basically scoring 4 points a night against vastly inferior opponents.

We should trade him to the Vegas Goldman Knights so he can murder Patrick Brown.

Cute little story on Porco, our 5th round pick. Apparently he used to talk trash to Turco as a kid:

Jamie Oleksiak switched from #43 to #5, and then to #2.

I'm saying that, I'm saying nothing...

I hope that Texas Stars C was velcro'd to Heatherington's jersey and not stitched on.

Great! He’s a wonderful AHLer. That and .50 cents used to buy a cup of coffee. Now it’s worth squat.

I don't care what the hell Gurianov does at the AHL level. He could score 1000 goals in a single season and it still doesn't change the fact that he flat out sucks in the NHL.

Why are the majority of Stars fans this delusional? They were the same way about Nichushkin and it really gets on my nerves.

I’m with them in that I also want him to be a good player. Lord knows the Stars are in desperate need of goal scoring. But I’m not the wishful thinking type who thinks that every single young player will become a 50+ point guy if he’s handed a bunch of ice time with top players.

But this anger about him is nothing but a continuation of the griping about Nichushkin and Honka. There is this strange belief that all of these guys would be awesome NHLers if only the farm system and coaches hadn’t hindered their development. They refuse to consider the possibility that these players were bad picks or have some responsibility for their own failings.

Well, Nichushkin is evidence that it isn't exactly the farm system that is the problem. It's more likely Nill et al's inept drafting.
