No way Shawnigan is a real place.

Demoting him when the roads may be icy kinda feels like Nill is trying to solve this problem beyond using waivers.

Maybe his conditioning is bad and they're making him skate all the way to Austin.

Bourque is apparently tearing up the Q, so the Stars are quick to get him signed to an ELC.

He can only play for us if he wears number 77.

Unretire Broten's 7 and give it to him.

And retire Turgeon’s 77. Not as an honored number, but as a cursed one.

Say what you will about their inability to draft, but I doubt there's any team better than Dallas in the 5th round:

So they'll eventually call him up and play him on the fourth line with Gardner and Camaano where he will obviously produce zero offense.

Talk about a square peg for a round hole.

Turgeon was a fine hockey player but he was absolutely the wrong signing that year.

I think this development stuff can get overblown from seeing the Stars churn through a ton of younger guys on the lower lines who barely play and seem to get no chance, but the guys with actual ability get real good chances. Hintz entered the NHL as a second liner. Once Gurianov stuck, he did as well to the point where he's getting a ton of PP time now in his second season. Robertson has pretty much been the same.

I think things under Nill are done quite a bit differently when it comes to giving (non-goalie) young guys chances than the Gainey/Hitch era where young guys had to grind their way up from the 4th line. We've seen a bunch of rookies over Nill's tenure get handed substantial roles even when the team was trying to win, including Nichushkin, Klingberg, Lindell, Heiskanen, Faksa, Hintz, Guianov, and now Robertson. If you look at who is being asked to carry the load this season, it's mostly all guys brought to the NHL under Nill.

When we wonder who was held back or not given chances, who are we talking about? Honka? Oleksiak? Ritchie?

Benn hasn’t been given enough chances or a prominent enough role.

No worries, Bowness will beat the offense out of him within a year or two.

Hintz and Gurianov were 8th and 11th among forwards in ice time last season, even while scoring 19 and 20 goals (2nd and 1st on the team). With next to no PP time until this season. They (and Robertson, now) got a big bump in ice time this season, but without injuries.... probably doesn't happen.

Same thing happened to pretty much all of our non-Nichuskin rookies, including guys like Reilly Smith, who languished for 8 minutes a night on the fourth line and now would easily be a 1st liner for us. Nich is the exception; he was handed a spot on the 1st line and became legitimately the most exciting, edge-of-your-seat offensive player the Stars have seen in a decade, until his injury knocked him out and he was never the same after that. But for the most part you gotta start on the 4th line with the Adam Burishes and just hope ten guys get injured.

Looks like the Allen Americans are definitely taking a bold position opposite of what most other pro leagues are doing.

I love contrarian rebels, even if I'm indifferent on the police issue, so I like this by default.
