Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
More from Scott Wheeler's tournament notebook:
F Logan Stankoven (Dallas Stars): Dominant at five-on-five. Great in the face-off circle (the best in the tournament). Pace. Energy. Finishing every check. The hardest-working player every time he’s on the ice. I don’t know how he doesn’t burn out late in games from tiredness, but he just keeps going. I thought he was their best player in the quarterfinal and one of their best in the semifinal. Incredibly consistent shift-to-shift throughout the tournament. He’s a bulldog and he oozes skill. Rare combination.

Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
Cory Pronman's standouts and disappointments from the World Juniors:
Standouts:
Standouts:
The Kent Johnson (Columbus)-Logan Stankoven (Dallas)-Tyson Foerster (Philadelphia) Line
In the tough games, it was this group that stepped up for Canada and was their most consistent line. Johnson’s skill is elite and his imagination with the puck was above the crop at this level. Stankoven brought a ton of energy and skill too, on top of being reliable down the middle for this line, and by the end of the tournament Canada’s power play was flowing through him. Foerster didn’t have the best year in junior but he was quite good in this tournament. He made a lot of plays, he worked hard and he was involved in the offense consistently. His skating is going to be an issue as a pro until he proves it’s not an issue, but at the fast pace of this tournament he showed it wasn’t.

The only reason Stankoven wasn't a much higher first round pick is because he's 5'8".

Hopefully he doesn't have Honka's problem of being sold as a skilled small guy who turns out doesn't do anything useful with the puck when he gets it.

He'll be fine. The WJC is usually a great litmus test. Which is how I know that Harley is a bust.

Being one of the best players on a young Canada squad is usually a fairly good sign.
So I predict h gets hit by a bus or something.

Hopefully they don't celebrate the win the way previous Canadian WJC teams did.

The Traverse City tournament might be some must watch hockey. The Stars haven't had this many forwards with any NHL promise on the team at one time before.
The defense appears to be an assembly of made up names.

Kyrou's brother plays for St. Louis and is quite good. Grushnikov gets good marks from Pronman and others. The rest may or may not be real people.

Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
The Stars first game of the Traverse City tournament is today at 5:30. It looks like a few teams participating will be streaming every game. It also looks like the Stars won't be one of those teams. Thanks, Gaglardi.
Game one is against Toronto, and they will be streaming it on the Leafs app. Of course, who knows if their stream will work in the US.

I would actually watch that if it were during the work day.
Of course, you and I would probably account for half their viewers.

Grushnikovs are less expensive than their American counterparts but cheap and reliable.

Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
And this also gets to the other thread about why national writers don't know a lot about the Stars. They aren't going to dedicate a lot of time to a mediocre team with a relatively small fanbase. The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:08 amOf course, you and I would probably account for half their viewers.

Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
I was wondering how they got 13 national ESPN games, but that probably has more to do with ESPN needing to fill content and Ballys going down in flames than any level of demand. Broadcasting those games costs more to air than they earn from eyeballs and ad revenue

That's not that high though. It's probably about where they should be.

Kyrou just got a contract from the Blues that probably made T-Gags have bowel distress. The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:15 amGrushnikovs are less expensive than their American counterparts but cheap and reliable.
