Schremp is a great example of how you shouldn't draft someone with great hands who isn't a great skater these days.
Would Brett Hull even succeed in today's NHL? I dunno.

Hull was lazy even by old NHL standards where Ludwig and the like would drink all summer long and not start working out until training camp

Hull would still be amazing on the PP, but he’d not have the space he did 5 on 5 when younger. Every team now plays defense.

And skates really really well. I'm amazed at the difference in twenty years. Half of every team has Mike Modano skating now.

But maybe a young Hull today wouldn't use a six pack of Bud as his post game recovery drink.
That's one hard thing to compare across eras. It wasn't all that long ago dudes were showing up to training camp having done next to no exercise all summer.

At first I thought he went and cherry picked the only other good names for that award and it would be littered with busts, but holy *poo poo* most of the players who won it turned out to be good to great NHLers.
Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
I'm still pissed of this news because it completely offsets the fantastic 2-way 1-year extension of Cecconi.

The Stars have worked long and hard to put themselves into a position where they can trade minor leaguers instead of top-liners forThe Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 8:42 am What the hell is up with our having good prospects?
grinders, pesky players and over-the-hill second liners.

Luckily we already have our over-the-hill second and third liners locked up to expensive long term contracts.

Stankhoven's point totals pale in comparison with his nickname potential.

Tufte gets a last one-year prove it deal. About this time next season, the follow up to this move will be posted in the former Stars thread.

The Stars signed Yauheni Aksiantsiuk, a 2020 sixth rounder, to an ELC last year and are firing him now. He struggled to show he would ever be more than an ECHLer.

Stankoven is having quite the World Junior tournament. The most surprising thing to me has been how good he is at winning face-offs.

Yes, keep seeing the highlights. Amazing kid.
Not even sure how he's gonna disappoint me yet.

Re: Texas Stars (and Prospects) Thread
By not making the opening day lineup and then getting traded for a gritty 4th liner.
Would that do it?
