WCF GM3 05/23 vs Golden Knights (7PM CT) - THE HOUSE WINS
Re: WCF GM3 05/23 vs Golden Knights (7PM CT) - THE HOUSE WINS
Those last two goals were two of the worst I've ever seen Oettinger give up. I'd say he's done for the playoffs, all one game of it.
He's also the only goalie left who's started every game for his team this playoffs.

Yeah man, I do think about that a lot. It's DeBoer's Achilles heel, isn't it?Troy McClure wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:32 pm So remember those two months where DeBoer started Oettinger every game and his play turned to *poo poo*? I wonder if we’re seeing the aftershock from that decision to overwork Oettinger.

I told you guys that Suter’s dumb play wasn’t exceptional.

Oh right, that 6-1 loss. But I thought we should dismiss all games with Kari or Niemi playing.

This is the 4th time in the past 5 years that DeBoer has lost in the conference finals

Is that when Wedgewood was injured? If so then I can't really blame DeBoer because otherwise they would've had to trust Evil Matt Murray or some other spare in net.mookie1010 wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:40 pmYeah man, I do think about that a lot. Don't worry guys, Oettinger always responds well after a bad outing.
The problem is, when you have a bad outing every other game then it turns out you aren't playing well. It's safe to say Oettinger has taken a step back and removed himself from the top tier of goalies.

Trivia Question of the night: if Benn doesn't get a suspension, should DeBoer bench him for game #4 ?

He'd never bench him. Did he scratch any vets this year?

These are playoff games this year that I thought Oettinger was sub par:wonko80 wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:44 pm Don't worry guys, Oettinger always responds well after a bad outing.

Game 3 vs Minnesota
Game 1 vs Seattle (maybe debatable because the defense gave up some high danger chances in 1st period?)
Game 3 vs Seattle
Game 6 vs Seattle (debatable since the defense was so poor in front of him)
Game 3 vs Vegas
Maybe can include Games 1 and 2 vs Vegas because an elite goaltender finds a way to stop those OT goals?

Re: WCF GM3 05/23 vs Golden Knights (7PM CT) - THE HOUSE WINS
It made me mad then because Oettinger’s save percentage kept plummeting over that stretch and ended up being pulled a few times. He was clearly wearing down, and even with playing him every game, it didn’t matter at all for where they finished in the standings.Archangel972 wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:44 pmIs that when Wedgewood was injured? I’ll be honest here. In a well run NHL, cross checking Stone in the face would not even be a penalty.

In 1999 it would not have been.

Stars have looked pretty good since going down 0-3. I still think we're gonna need 5 goals minimum to win this tho.
Right at the end of the period, DeBoer put Harley and Heiskanen together. *fargin'* FINALLY.

I remember musing to myself when they got to this round that Benn legitimately could have his number retired if they win the cup. That is not going to happen now.

Yes, goalies is one of the several issues with DeBoer's history. Teams usually get worse each year of DeBoers tenure. Slow to make adjustments in playoffs, system easy to defend against teams who can defend the middle of the ice. Slow the transition game it's pretty much limited.mookie1010 wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 7:40 pmYeah man, I do think about that a lot. Defensively they overload the one side of the ice which the puck is on, so it can leave wide open players for great scoring chances. One mistake it's a goal in those situations.

You’re celebrating two thirds of their d pairs having dudes who can’t skate or move the puck?

Also doesn’t that mean there are going to be two pairs without someone who can move the puck?Troy McClure wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 8:00 pmYou’re celebrating two thirds of their d pairs having dudes who can’t skate or move the puck?

They didn't retire Morrow's. Why would they retire Benn's?slaps wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 8:05 pmBenn’s number is retired no matter what. Re: WCF GM3 05/23 vs Golden Knights (7PM CT) - THE HOUSE WINS
All we have to do now is score 3 goals in 40 minutes without our second best scoring line against Vegas.
Also our backup goalie and team defense that can’t cover has to prevent Vegas from scoring again.
Seems easy.

If this was a sports movie, Rick Bowness would walk into the locker room at the second intermission and save the day
