I really thought we were going to screw up that 3 on 1 with no goalie.

Totally under the radar, but Hintz is the current playoffs point leader. Yes, above Draisaitl.

Really excellent game by Dallas.

We got early penalty help, but no team is better from playing behind in all situations than the Wild this season.

But we completely shut them down with a lead. That impressive forecheck of Minnesota generated nothing on dallas for maybe the first game in the series.

The Wild should've gone with Fleury.

Gustavsson made some great saves. It’s going to be great when they go to Fleury in game six.

Minnesota is also a team with zero centers. Domi or Johnston would easily be their #1 centers. They were weak down the middle going into the playoffs, and losing their one decent center is so hard to overcome.

Focusing on even strength contributions from guys paid for offense, the following guys have zero five on five points this series:
Seguin
Robertson
Domi
Marchment

Toldja this would be an easy one. But Game 6 in Minnesota? Holy *poo poo* get ready for an all-out barrage of pucks, cheap shots, and whining. Oettinger might break his own record.

I also very much enjoyed the broadcast booth guys making fun of the Wild for their total lack of discipline and whining. Very different from the analysts in the studio. A+

Yep. And it appears to start with the head coach. If they drop this series, I'd fire his ass. He's created this culture it looks like to me.

I think Mike Piellucci at D Magazine kind of nailed it:

https://www.dmagazine.com/sports/2023/0 ... ld-game-5/

For four games, the Minnesota Wild fucked around.

They complained and wheedled, needled and cajoled. They agitated. They dared the Stars and, perhaps even more so, the referees to do something about it.

In the fifth game, they found out.

There is a conversation to be had—and StrongSide broached it Tuesday morning—about how much longer the Stars can live so thoroughly on the man advantage while often appearing lifeless at even strength. That isn’t going away, either, even if Mason Marchment’s rebound put-in in the second period was a welcomed heartbeat for player and team alike.

But for this game—and this series, considering that Game 5 winners in series tied two games apiece advance 79 percent of the time—that doesn’t matter. What does is the Stars didn’t panic. They stopped trying to meet the Wild on their terms and instead allowed Minnesota to reckon with the consequences of continuing to agitate well after, as our Sean Shapiro noted, their act had grown thin among the officials.

i've been among those concerned about 5 on 5, but wasn't concerned about it this game.

The other team spots you two quick playoff PP goals so early and your 5 on 5 is not going to be all that aggressive anymore.

They need to get going 5 on 5, but it's hard to do when the game is so choppy and whistle-filled. But there have been plenty of seasons in the not-too-distant past where not only could the Stars not score at 5 on 5, but the power play was useless too. So I'll worry about 5 on 5 but be happy they are taking the Wild's dumb penalties and obliterating them on special teams.

That's my feeling, the Wild got caught by their own game. There's no problem to be physical but if you pull the string too hard, it breaks and blows in your face. The Wild had a 34-17 advantage in hits but it didn't change a damn thing, maybe it hurt themselves more than the Stars. Also, the Wild doesn't seem to have a plan B. Reaves caused the turnover which led to the Middleton penatly, and then the 2-0 lead and seeing him be served his own medecine was quite enjoyable.

The Stars did a perfect management job, avoiding taking unnecessary risks while having a good defensive structure. It was a quiet night for Öttinger as he didn't really face dangerous shots with little to no traffic in front of him. Finally, it's quite ironic to see the Wild praising for the physical game while keeping on acting like crybabies and whining constantly. Maybe the refs are starting to be pissed of about this.

yeah The second period we also spent a lot on the pk (which held strong finally).

The third we had a three goal lead. I don't expect
much activation of defense or aggression there.

I was more concerned about game one and game
three there. Game one we had lots and lots of time to produce the 5 on 5 goal that would've won it for us.

I don't think Evason is helping his team. He's directly blaming refs and his players are spouting off about the refs directly. DeBoer is playing it a bit more tactfully. I think the first round of Evason versus DeBoer was a good play on Evason's part, but now he needs to leave it alone.

I actually was floored by DeBoer saying (on the Pavs hit) if the refs say it wasn't a 5 minute penalty we will go with that and "we have the best officials in the world".

Then they interview Seguin later that day and all he said was "well we have the best officials in the world". refused to complain.

You can see the strategy. He gathered all his players tougher and said not to *goddess* to the media. Simply say the refs are awesome when asked about things.

I found that interesting and unusual.

I like it if for no other reason than it threw everyone a curve ball. DeBoer basically dared the Wild to keep yammering about it, that the Stars didn't care. Saying (paraphrased) "Hey man, if I had one of the most penalized teams I'd whine like a *goddess* to the media too."

All last night I kept thinking, "Well, y'all got those diving calls you were after. Way to go?"

The part where he claimed Minnesota was "better" 5 on 5 was a bit much though. They got basically no chances to score after the pp goals and couldn't even establish that forecheck.

It doesn't sit well with me that we didn't push 5
on 5 more, but if that's the result when spotted a 2 goal lead.... fine.
