Oh. Nevermind, if he's skating in Pavelski's spot, then he's probably a scratch.

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
His "explanation" was what was unfortunate seeing as it came the day after the world saw the video, from several angles, of what was obviously a moronic decision on his part. Trying to b.s. his way around it when everyone has seen it tells me he really doesn't care.cdanew wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 9:03 amI don't think he actually has a nonchalant attitude about it. I think he's probably pretty eaten up by the mistake. I just think his brain is still old school in terms of communications and keeping things in the room and he obviously has never been a very good communicator with the media.SaintAngerBH wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 7:42 am I like how Benn called his crosscheck to the jaw an "unfortunate" play. No accountability at all. It's not unfortunate. It was a moronic decision that made a difficult series impossible to win now for his team. Really unbelievable to me his nonchalant attitude about it.

Good point. IMO he got 1 game for his actions, and an additional 1 game for not reporting to the media after the game and trying stupidly to bullshit everyone with drunk woman theories.

He probably should apologize to his team for screwing up.
But not to the fans or anything. Those guys are assholes.

I think people are not realizing here how difficult the NHL playoffs are and that he is unlikely to do anything thrown in there.
That's fine. Could be a good experience. But I would not expect much.

I don't expect much either, but it is still more than I expect from Rhett Gardner. Or a seventh defenseman.

Stars should take ‘C’ from Jamie Benn, whose actions, and words, are beneath the honor
Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn is a captain in name only. That honored distinction in hockey should go to veteran Joe Pavelski. Pavelski is more of a captain than anyone else on the Dallas Stars roster.
The Stars have taken away the “C” before. They actually took the “C” away from Mike Modano, the most decorated player in the history of the franchise, in 2006 to give it to Brenden Morrow.
It has been no secret that Pavelski has been this team’s captain over the last few years more than Benn. Pavelski is one of the most respected, and revered, players in the NHL; everyone listens to this man.

Can't disagree with that but with Pavelski here for more likely only next season, the next captain should go to one of the young core, either Hintz, Robertson or Heiskanen.

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
I don't think the C really means that much anyway outside of having the most contact with the officials and hosting team BBQs.

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
Exactly. Technically, wearing the "C" just allow you to go inside the refs' half-circle and discuss with them. Some teams have a rotation in the C, some don't even have a captain. inside an organization, everybody knows who is (or are) the 'real' captain(s), regardless of who wears it on his jersey.SaintAngerBH wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:35 pm I don't think the C really means that much anyway outside of having the most contact with the officials and hosting team BBQs.

This is one of those discussions that I always internally laugh at because I don’t think fans have any *fargin'* clue who a good captain would be. And can’t possibly know.

Sure. I did play hockey when I was younger and the captaincy was ceremonial entirely. But, that wasn't pro.The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 7:04 pm This is one of those discussions that I always internally laugh at because I don’t think fans have any *fargin'* clue who a good captain would be. Sure, but that’s not what I mean. I think you need to be close to these guys on a level that sports writing doesn’t capture to know who a great captain for that group would be.

I mean it doesnt take Nostradamus to glean that Pavelski is the actual captain

I mean it’s a reasonable guess.
He is old and wise and stuff and Hollywood casting would pick him.

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
All true. And it's also easier to guess who might not be the captain. For instance Marchment or Hakanpää.

I think Hanakpaa would make a great captain.
I mean nobody would understand him but they wouldn’t want to mess with him.

You could see Hakenpaa’s strong silent leadership on display tonight filling the vacuum left by Benn’s absence.
