Hakanpaa is a decent 7th defenseman option if needed. His decision making was really bad on outlet passes during the Seattle series and he was giving them the puck in the slot regularly. Hanley isn't some awesome magic fix but he's consistent and safe and doesn't usually make errors like that.
Winamp - it really whips the llama's ass.

It wasn't the right series for him. He's not quick of feet or of thought. Sometimes in a very physical game he just wipes people out though

And if he's not even practicing, it probably means he was playing hurt.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

We're in the final four!
We did pretty well against Vegas this year. Hopefully that’s helpful. They are starting a less than experienced goalie, so we’ll need to take care not to anoint him king. Their special teams are atrocious, so we definitely want to do some diving. Vegas is fast and skilled, though. It’s always interesting to see how teams match up that first game.
Stars have a lot going for them. Oettinger has some proving to do this round. Pavelski may singlehandedly be propelling the team with his will to win. The UFAs we picked up need contracts. Johnston is a budding beauty. Marchment seems to be doing his thing. So, lots of positives.
Robertson has 12 points in 13 games. He is contributing, even though it doesn’t feel like it. I hope he has used this time off to relax, too much thinking dude. Play the game. He was getting some momentum those last couple Kraken games.
Starting on the road is good. And while a game 7 at home is nice we’re done with those, because DeBoer has reached his win limit. And the coaching thing makes a good story, but at the end of the day it’s probably a wash. DeBoer knows them and they know DeBoer.
Super stoked to be in the conference finals! Wee!
Also looking forward to the FL/CAR match up. I hope it’s totally crazy!

To be honest, they've already exceeded my expectations but I'll certainly take another series win if it's possible.

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
Vegas system under Cassidy to keep everything to the outside in the defensive zone. Vegas goalie Adin Hill plays deep in the crease, the Vegas system helps him out a lot. DeBoer's system is off the rush goals (Stars lead the playoffs in it), or shots from point with hopes of deflections, hopefully DeBoer can add more into the system. Cassidy's system if played good can limit DeBoer's system 5 on 5, creating transition goals will be a key for the Stars. Vegas has the better defense depth.
On Oettinger there was this earlier in the playoffs.

Doesn't every system try to keep attackers to the outside and out of the slot?

I know I am probably not as smart as some of the people that make these types of observations, and there's probably nuance to the analysis that I can't differentiate, but most of the time I read this *poo poo* and I'm like - well, yeah. Duh. Discovering and exploiting weaknesses is like, the thing to do.The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 12:42 am Also every goaltender’s weakness is high blocker.

It's just a funny thing that every single playoff series an announcer or commentator suggests that [insert team name] has figured out to shoot blocker high on [insert goalie name] for best success.mookie1010 wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 10:13 amI know I am probably not as smart as some of the people that make these types of observations, and there's probably nuance to the analysis that I can't differentiate, but most of the time I read this *poo poo* and I'm like - well, yeah. "The teams are missing the net on all of their shots. If they want to have success, they really need to start hitting the net with their shots."
Really? DO YOU THINK SO?!

From 2000 to 2018 ours was exclusively the 5-hole.The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 12:42 am Also every goaltender’s weakness is high blocker.

Nerdy look at Robertson's shot attempts.

DeBoer lost in 5 in the conference finals in the bubble, so that tracks

Re: 2023 Stars Playoffs (Thread)
The good news is a good amount of the Stars defense contracts are up soon.
Suter and Lindell in two seasons, same year Benn's contract is up
Miller and Hakanpaa after next season
Lindell's next contract is where those type of defenseman fall apart on and he struggles against faster teams.
The only real solution to getting another top four defenseman is to develop them. Paying big money in free agency isn't worth it for second pairing defenseman, who are getting older and will decline during the contract. Signing situational defenseman and 3rd pairing can be good signings, maybe can find a defenseman who is ready for a bigger role.
They need more defenseman with better puck skills in the lineup, not to mention more speed in the forwards.
DeBoer's system needs transition to be successful, Stars defenseman struggle to break out of their own zone with possession, so it's hard to fully utilize the system.

I'm guess all the management people remain in place because they made it to the third round.
