JVR to the Red Wings did not happen in time.

Coyotes trade Troy Stecher to the Flames.

Red Wings trade Oskar Sundqvist's giant ass to the Wild for a 2023 3rd.

Or…. Maybe the problem is no contender wanted JVR for any price.

So… Free. The Wild got Klingberg for free.

This trade looks like it was more about the Ducks being nice to Klingberg by giving him a shot on a playoff team.

I would like to be clear that I would take Klinger for free on this team also.

I don't know why more GM's don't trade picks well into the future. I feel pretty sure if you need to you can find a way to recapture the value of a 2028 3rd-round pick at some point between now and then.

This is precisely the sort of trade that instantly makes a "contending" team (Pens) bad. Kulikov is straight trash and has been his entire career. He's the Washington Generals of getting posterized by star forwards.

I am STOKED we didn't trade for him.

As I said in the previous page, I actually think Klingberg is mad at Dallas and vice versa.

I would've loved to have him but I just don't think it was in the cards.

And the whole Ducks team has been bad this season. They seem to have a *poo poo* coach, but Verbeek didn’t want to change things up because a new coach might get them out of the draft lottery race. I wonder if we’ll see Klingberg show more on a better team. As trade talks heated up, he suddenly started putting up points.

I think you're probably mostly right, but I hope that Nill/mgmt isn't holding a grudge. Klinger got bad advice and has clearly paid for that bad advice.

Oh well. Whatever. None of this is real anyway.

Even besides the money/contract stuff, I think they were kinda done with him as a player. He tried to play heroball way too much and was largely uncoachable.

On one hand, you don't want a player ignoring his coach. On the other hand, you did fire the same coach because his system wasn't working.

It's a little weird to see a GM openly talk about how no one really wanted one of his players.
"The one offer that I did get for JVR was at 1:40 this afternoon, and it was a conditional offer," he said. "I didn't know what the market might be, but I thought there would be at least some offers that we had to consider."

"There's no smoking gun here," Fletcher said. "We certainly made everybody aware that he was available. We made everybody aware that we would retain 50 percent [of his cap hit]. We made everybody aware we would take a contract back if that would help. We talked about all kids of different scenarios. I can't only control my half and there has to be a willing buyer. Until 1:40 today, we never had any type of offer."

"Yesterday I received two calls: One on JVR and one on another player. I made 17 [calls]," Fletcher said. "We would have rather have a good pick and let JVR play in the playoffs, and the market spoke."

JvR was on the trade wire the whole season and Fletcher had plenty of time to deal him. Yzerman, Brisebois, Poile or whoever who's a decent GM would've figured out. After destroying this franchise, the FO was supposed to go into rebuild mode but they didn't get anything in terms of picks/prospects while keeping all tradeable players with some value and washed-up vets. I really feel for them.

There was time, but was there interest. Getting a future mid round pick won't matter to a rebuild.

He was uncoachable under Bowness and Monty? Isn't that more evidence in Klingers favor?

According to the RDs insiders (for what's worth), three teams were on the block: Toronto, Seattle and another one I don't cleary remember (Vancouver I think). Like other trades, a transaction was conditional to another one on the other side, then time went on and diiing: the 3pm bell rang. It's ocrrect about the pick but it was more a matter of getting rid of him and clear some space. They were also trying to sell high on Laughton, without success.

Could be, but Klingberg maybe should've shown a bit more character and show his teeth.
