Bullet dodged. Now we just need a few more teams to jump in front of Nill and sacrifice their teams to Trotz and whatshisface.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
It's not going to be a coach who will actively make the Stars better. It's going to be a coach who will ensure they just don't miss the playoffs and anything is just a bonus.

The thing to understand about the Stars’ position as preseason “playoff contenders” as opposed to preseason “Cup contenders” is that this is somewhat an intentional choice made from the very top. To be clear, the goal for the organization, from ownership on down, is to win a championship. However, it’s also a widely held belief that the Stars, given the market they’re in, cannot withstand a bottom-out rebuild, which Detroit is undertaking right now and Chicago is getting set to enter. The kind of season Montreal just had is a nightmare for Stars ownership, one that simply landing the No. 1 overall pick doesn’t offset. There are financial ramifications, short- and long-term, that are considered in this approach.
The Stars believe their product needs to, at the least, be competitive to keep the fan base’s interest throughout the season. Playoff revenue is a boost so making it to the playoffs is the first goal. From there, the longer the run, the better it is for everybody, from ownership to the front office to coaches and players to, of course, fans.
Being Cup contenders means long playoff runs, right? So, why not build a roster that way? Well, if the Stars can do it without risking what often follows those high-end Cup windows, they’d love to. But to have a handful of years near the top and then a bunch of years at the bottom — again, see the Red Wings and Blackhawks — is not something this organization wants to experience or believes it can withstand.

I wonder if this is going to kick start a hiring frenzy. Seems like everyone was waiting around for Trotz, but in doing so, most teams risk losing out on both Trotz and their next best option.

Only a truly passionate fan base steeped in hockey tradition and excellence could pull off such a deep rebuild.slaps wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 5:25 pmWell, if the Stars can do it without risking what often follows those high-end Cup windows, they’d love to. Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
Or what about paying a bunch of players as though they were a multiple cup-winning dynasty even though they never won anything?

What are our thoughts on Jeff Halpern being the next coach? I've seen his name pop up a few times.

Say what you will about Kiviranta, but he listens to his coach and follows through:

Stars are mentioned having interest in Petry
Klingberg and the Stars aren't talking either

I wouldn’t give Petry that contract as a free agent, but we’re to believe the Stars are not only going to sign up for this terrible contract but will also give up assets to do so? *f-bomb* that. Montreal should be offering up first round like assets to the Stars to entice the Stars to take on a diminishing Petry.

No idea. There are a lot of names on the list who are big question marks.

Halpern always had a pretty good hockey brain. I have no idea if he's good or not, but I support it primarily because I really liked him as a player, and because he's not damn retread. Maybe he'll be terrible, but we know exactly who De Boer is.

Hopefully he declines because of Nill's one year left on contract.
DeBoer's heavy shoot from the point and hope for deflections system. Which is very easy to defend in the playoffs. Probably increases the chances of adding Petry.*Friedman suggested Trotz is not an option in Dallas. Sounds like he's not interested.
*Friedman also said Trotz isn't an option in Florida because of his relationship with Brunette. Trotz won't push him out. Looks like Brunette may return with a veteran assistant.
*Trotz either lands in Winnipeg, outside chance Detroit, takes a year off, or lands in Nashville in management. He'll be in Winnipeg this week.
*Marek suggested in Dallas, the ball is in DeBoer's court. Friedman said if it's DeBoer, will know in a day or two
Hopefully he declines because of Nill's one year left on contract.

This will at least provide for more feedback when they call me asking me to buy tickets.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
DeBoer has been criticized recently for his handling of goaltenders, most notably and publicly by agent Allan Walsh, who represents Marc-Andre Fleury. When Fleury was on the Golden Knights and Vegas began riding Robin Lehner, Walsh tweeted a photo of Fluery with a sword through his back. “DeBoer” was written the sword. Down the stretch of the 2021-22 season, DeBoer and Lehner had friction as Lehner battled an injury.
