If you need someone who can vomit nonsense word salad at post game press conferences trying to justify poor team performances over and over again, a non-English speaker would be even better at that job than Bowness was.

I'd be in favor of Savard without knowing much about his ability as a coach primarily because he isn't a retread. If it's between retreads, Cassidy is certainly the best of the bunch.

What idiot thinks Montgomery has any chance? He can become a head coach elsewhere, but not here. Especially if Nill is the one doing the hiring.

I can’t find the option to select Hagman. This vote is rigged.

No Wakaluk and living in the wrong country. I'm gonna pretend living in Fond du Lac, WI, and vote for Tinordi.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
Isn't Tinordi's most memorable moment as a Star getting his leg broken?

I just don't see us being able to replace the most successful Stars coach of the last two decades -- Bowness.
Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
And his upcoming trade that led the Stars to get Zubov. So technically and medically, yes.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
There is this really weird set of Stars enthusiasts who idolize the guy for some reason and think he is the best coach the Stars have ever had.

Well he's not really much less successful than the parade of other coaches we've had for decades. It's starting to become pretty apparent that it doesn't make much difference for this group.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
Ain't that the truth. Scotty Bowman couldn't make Jamie Benn productive again.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
We can still go for an alternative choice that follows the Montgomery route in promoting an assistant coach, a retread and a former Star:

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
I’m more interested in finding a coach who is willing to demote Benn than I am any who is going to pretend they can get more out of him. But I also kinda wonder if ownership only wants to hear big talk about how to make the horseshit good again.ScubaSteve wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 9:41 am Ain't that the truth. Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
Although every coach has to win, it was pretty apparent our goal was to win only and whatever way possible.
Should the next coach have that goal? Because if that's his immediate goal, I don't think he will be successful.
But I do think there are some nice players coming.
The new coach has to have a small window to build something.

We had one non-defensive coach and we won the President's Trophy and then switched course because Kari let in a million goals in the playoffs. The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 9:38 am Well he's not really much less successful than the parade of other coaches we've had for decades. And the team media people will point to how those Ruff teams missed the playoffs too often and didn't advance, so the super defensive approach is the only way to go because of the obviously repeatable bubble run.ToddM wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 11:42 amWe had one non-defensive coach and we won the President's Trophy and then switched course because Kari let in a million goals in the playoffs. The Frugal Gourmet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 9:38 am Well he's not really much less successful than the parade of other coaches we've had for decades. I don't even think it's right to call Ruff an offensive coach. He spent a decade prior in Buffalo where they continually ran a Hitch-like conservative system. Ruff just adapted to what he had during his time here: several fast forwards who could score in transition, a pretty shitty defense, and suspect goaltending.
I don't think a Bowness approach would have helped those prior teams, and I also don't think that Ruff approach would have been more successful with these recent teams considering how Nill changed the build of the team to purposely make the forward group bigger and slower.

Looks like I'm going to have to read a book on the Boer Wars to build up some good references for the team's performance next season.

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
Ruff had a couple of very different teams in Buffalo, including the defense-first one we're all familiar with. But in the mid-2000s he ran a run-and-gun high-flying offense with guys like Briere/Drury/Campbell/Roy which scored a ton. I think they may have even won the Prez trophy too? He's the kind of coach we need; the guy who adapts to his roster, rather than the other way around.Troy McClure wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 12:39 pm

Re: 2022 Stars Off-Season Thread
On the plus side, if Nill does hire a defensive-minded coach, at least we'll have a new GM and coach next season.
