2022 Stars Off-Season Thread

Is three home games of playoff revenue enough for Tommy G to keep Nill around?

I hope not. “Built for the playoffs” my ass.

Built for the playoffs, but barely scrape by in the first round because your goalie was unreal.

Wrote off last season because of injuries to Bishop, Seguin, and Radulov, yet those three gave you jack *poo poo* this season.

His experience with the Islanders and Predators makes him ideally suited for a franchise whose ceiling is consistent mediocrity.

And and *f-bomb* Owen and Bruce with their bullshit about this being the Stars second best regular season in 14 years. I'm so tired of these *fargin'* team-paid homers propping this *poo poo* up. *f-bomb* them. This team finished fourth in their division. That's not good.

The Stars signed some guy who was a Chicago 4th round pick who never saw any NHL time. He went back to Sweden where he had a very good season at the highest level league there.

He might have gotten lost in the shuffle a bit because of covid. Who knows.

He’s about to turn 26. I guess they think he’s a late bloomer.

So on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman said he believed that if anything happens at key positions (GM/Coach) it'll be because of those individuals stepping away. He did however say this:

The Dallas Stars are going through an internal debate about their decision-making, and how they kind of look at things. They've really made some indications that would like to change their processes about certain things.

Another interesting point though was as they consider hiring a new coach (seems like Friedman really thinks that Bowness could be gone), that coach wouldn't be as comfortable having a GM with only 1 year remaining on his deal. He doesn't think Dallas is prepared to give Nill an extension, and he just wonders if Nill sees that it might be time to move on.

So Friedman isn't saying anything outright, but he's talking about a team that isn't happy with it's decision-making and processes behind the scenes (he's mentioned this multiple times this year ever since Greeley was hired), and he sees a situation that could develop where a new GM and coach could theoretically start fresh together.

I say we wait and see what we got with Nill and Bowness. Plenty of untapped potential there.

The implication the team wouldn't make changes unless guys quit really shows me how much Gaglardi has lost interest in this thing.

Well Bowness isn't under contract, plus with Friedman saying the Stars considered a coaching change twice during the season. Based on the information don't think he will be back. Hiring a coach is going to be harder when the current GM has only 1 year left. They could even promote Nill to higher role and hire a new GM and coach, which is probably the best situation. The most interesting thing is the unhappy with the "decision-making and processes behind the scenes". Is that coach related? or things within the front office? or both?

This is definitely the guy I want to keep leading this team:
“Listen, we all know the scoring has to improve, but the chances for improved and zone time and all of the metrics improved,” Bowness said at exit interviews. “The bottom line is this: We had 98 points, got to the playoffs, we took that team to overtime in Game 7. That’s what matters. The rest? Yeah, we have to fix some things and we can improve on some things, absolutely, but so can every other team."
Offense will take care of itself, right Rick?

About *fargin'* time.

Now, the remaining open question: what will happen to Nill? With Bowness gone I hardly imagine him staying in place as GM for a lone year.

I’m honestly surprised they didn’t take the easiest give up route of just naming John Stevens head coach and rolling out the same *poo poo* with a slightly different face.

Bowness, Nelson, and Stevens were all the guys Nill hired to be veteran voices on Monty's bench.

This signals a complete reset on coaching philosophy or message. Good.

I heard he prefers his native frozen tundra than extreme humid heat index.

That being said, glad that Reese remains in place. He seems to form a very good tandem with our franchise goalie.
