It’s tough when the Lindyball horses you inherited should have been put down years ago. Probably drove Monty to get himself fired.Troy McClure wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 6:50 pmAnd didn't Monty try to run a high octane offense, racked up a bunch of losses, then switched to Hitchball because he didn't have the horses for what he wanted to run?

Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
A lot of people romanticize Montgomery because Bowness is so spectacularly awful, but really it’s a failure by Nill to build a team that’s well-constructed for modern hockey.
Winamp - it really whips the llama's ass.
Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
Nill's come out ahead in a few big trades and had one legendary draft year, but he sucks at hiring coaches and his record on free agents is mediocre.
...and that probably makes him a better GM than all but maybe ten guys. It's a pretty thankless position.

Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
I didn't realize the Stars have this option. Yeah, he's back.
7. There is a team option next year on Rick Bowness (Dallas). The Stars considered a coaching change at All-Star, but Bowness’s own thoughts may determine where this goes. He wanted one more chance to run a bench and got Dallas to within two victories of a Stanley Cup in 2020.

I don't know what everyone is so on about, offense will just take care of itself. Ask the Stars' head coach, who I am sure is near the top of the wins column for coaches after being innovative and creative for 40+ years, right?

Believe it or not, the Stars have scored 4+ goals in 7 of their last 10 games.

4 goals a night is a bad outing for like 6 NHL teams this year. Florida is scoring like 7 goals a night when they need it.
Also, don't look now but the Stars have more 30+ point players than the Avs. 6th most in the league, in fact.

1st line: 92 goals scored
All others: 117 goals scored
The others are chipping in 1.63 goals per game.
The Stars have a season 2.99 GA/GP, meaning the others leave a 1.36 goal hole per game the first line has to overcome to get points.

Whatever huge contract amount we signed him to, Miro is worth more than that:

You know, I look forward to the day we get a Miro article bragging about the actual offense he's producing versus this series of articles laying out excuses for why he's not.

How can the Stars overcome losing their big trade deadline acquisition?

Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
Since the Wedgewood trade, here are the updated numbers including last night's ugly game. In this run, Wedgewood has started against all of the best teams, too.
Wedgewood .916 2.69
Oettinger .903 2.77
This is going to take some skillful coaching to find a way to get Oettinger rest while still keeping him active enough to be ready for the playoffs.
Oettinger's drop off isn't unique. A number of bigger name goalie who were playing great for the first 3/4 of the season are also seeing their numbers decline the last moth or so. After a couple of years of not playing 82 game seasons, this shift back to it seems to be wearing starting goalies down across the league.

Also, Oettinger could just be another in a long line of spare goalies who are great in small doses as a backup but not capable of performing consistently when given an opportunity for a long run starting gig, a la Khudobin.

He's already had a couple rounds of articles of "he's arrived" to "he has issues" to "he's clearly a #1 now". Time to wing back around and repeat the pattern
Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
I think he's been fine. Just look at the games where he gave up more than 2 goals... unbelieveably shitty defense, tons of uncovered guys and odd man breaks.

I saw someone point out Miro hasn't scored a goal since before the Christmas break. I then decided to go see how his peers are doing since Miro last scored.
Dahlin 7 goals 28 assists
Makar 14 goals 45 assists
Q. Hughes 5 goals 31 assists
Miro zero goals 16 assists

Re: 2021-2022 Stars Regular Season Thread
Not wildly different.
Dahlin 7 goals 28 assists in 48 GP
Makar 14 goals 45 assists in 51 GP
Q. Hughes 5 goals 31 assists in 43 GP
Miro zero goals 16 assists in 39 GP
Makar has played 12 more, but given Miro's rate this back half of the season, the extra 12 games brings Miro's assist pace up to 21 total.

Vegas and Nashville both lost in extra-time tonight, so that’s cool.

If Vegas misses the playoffs, that franchise is going to enter a whirlwind of chaos.

Asking three of the players to wear warmup jerseys supporting Ukraine would be a bit awkward.
