The Dallas Stars have re-signed forward Joe Pavelski to a one-year, $5.5 million contract extension.

I honestly wish it was two.

If Pavelski drops sharply, no team will want him anyway. A full NMC for a year seems like a small risk. He took a salary and term cut for location guarantee. You know some team would have given him more term and money on the open market.

I guess if you’re a GM who is about to get fired and you think you can fart your way to another mediocre first round exit and limp along without getting fired for another year, you would hang on to Klingberg and lose him for nothing this summer instead of pulling a king’s ransom for him at the deadline.

If the Stars ever trade Gurianov, it will be because 1.62 points per 60 5v5 (4th among forwards) is also offset by him having 3.78 points per 60 on the PP. If you’re curious, that’s the lowest among all Stars players (F or D) to play any PP time this season. Having 5v5 numbers that rank just ok for a second liner don’t make you valuable if you’re an offensive black hole on the PP.
