Corey Perry had never been on waivers before. So he asked his agent Pat Morris what exactly it entailed.

Because the veteran winger started the season on the taxi squad, there were cap gymnastics and waivers and things going on this year not just for the Montreal Canadiens but for all the teams in this unique season.

Perry wasn’t the only brand name that was put on waivers. But once he understood what was going on, he made it clear to his veteran agent he didn’t want to go anywhere.

“So I did call three teams that looked like they would have the need for him, to ask them not to pick him up on waivers,” Morris told The Athletic over the weekend. “It wasn’t a threat to retire or anything, but basically ‘can you adhere to who Corey Perry is. If your thought is to pick him up on waivers, please don’t.’

“Two of the teams said, ‘We were going to put in a claim until this call. We’ll respect his career.'”
Kinda a dick move on his part but also kinda cool.

It is interesting. The teams wanting to pick him up would know he wouldn't be happy, and they wouldn't want an unhappy Corey Perry.

If Tampa beats Montreal, all is forgiven from this Stars fan.

I'm going to have to support Montreal. The Stars spent their best seasons as the final stop for old Habs, so the connection is strong.

I hope you're enjoying this b/c I sure am not. Worst SCF in recent memory. Not that I expected Montreal to beat TB, but sheesh, at least give them some grief.

I haven’t been watching, but this NHL season ending with a whimper is pretty fitting.

There were some upsets in the playoffs, but the inevitable Tampa Cup win is coming through. And they're going to be the favorite next season as well.

I'm glad. They built an insanely good team and they should be rewarded for it.

Even when Tampa doesn’t play particularly well, they can just tear you apart by capitalizing on small mistakes.

TB played very well, but Montreal defended better. All those kills, and Price’s saves allowed Montreal to get their game going and cash in on their chaos. TB is definitely the better overall team, but we get another game. And that one was at least fun.

It's pretty amazing to look at the NHL's expansion over the years and realize how Tampa is more successful than most. Alternative view: holy *poo poo* the NHL has really struggled to see most post WWII expansion teams find repeat success.

Is it weird that this made me feel slightly better? No one gets past this team.

I feel like this team is even better than those dominant Red Wing teams 10+ years ago. Maybe the best team I've seen in my life time (at least since I've been watching hockey).

They're the best of the cap era for sure. Their forward group is deep, their defense can all skate well enough to take away however you want to attack, and their goalie is practically a cheat code.

With how talented they are it would actually be a shame if they didn't win and lost to a team with a bunch of random dudes (like the Stars or Habs) because then it means there's no point trying to build a super skilled roster.

To be fair, they are 18 million over the cap and the silly loophole is being fixed so...
