And as a Jew, Steven can root for Hyman.

I doubt there’s ever going to be an Intersectionality Consultant with a member.

https://theathletic.com/2700765/2021/07 ... eir-lines/

Some may argue that the rash of injuries throughout the roster — while Cogliano, Faksa and Comeau stayed mostly healthy — resulted in the team-leading minutes. Not quite. Go back to the 2019-20 season and the FCC line still tallied the most minutes on the team, with Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov coming in second. Again, the issue isn’t just that on a roster with plenty of talent, the third line is hogging most of the playing time; it’s that their play on the ice doesn’t even warrant that ice time. This isn’t the Blake Coleman, Yanni Gourde and Barclay Goodrow line in Tampa Bay. That checking line led the Lightning in ice time together at 413 minutes this season. That’s just under 100 minutes more than the Stars’ checking line but the difference in results is astonishing:

Cogliano-Faksa-Comeau Coleman-Gourde-Goodrow
TOI 319 413
GF 8 25
GA 15 13
SF% 50.5% 58.3%
CF% 50% 56.3%

The obvious disclaimer is that the Tampa Bay line has arguably the world’s best goaltender behind it in Andrei Vasilevskiy, but still, in comparison to the FCC line, Tampa Bay’s line scored 17 more goals, let in two fewer pucks and had a substantial edge in Shots For and Corsi For percentage. Is it fair to compare to the back-to-back champions? The Stars openly proclaim championship-or-bust aspirations, so, yes.

Yes, a non-playoff team’s third line isn’t as good as the best team’s third line. Breaking news.

https://theathletic.com/2696501/2021/07 ... -rankings/

We tried to quantify exactly where each NHL franchise ranked in playoff success during the salary-cap era. It’s an attempt to take opinion out of it...Before we get to all the teams and where they rank, first a breakdown in how the results were calculated:

Calculations began with the advent of the salary cap, the 2005-06 season.

Winning the Stanley Cup (SC): 11 points

Losing in the Stanley Cup Final (SCF): 5 points
Losing in the conference final (CF): 3 points
Making the playoffs: 1 point

Teams can’t earn points in multiple categories so if a team wins the Stanley Cup in a given year, it also doesn’t get the point for making the playoffs. It’s also weighed in favor of significant playoff success. Sorry, teams that make the playoffs a lot but don’t do anything once they get there.

17. Dallas Stars
Total: 13

The grind of last season’s playoff run mixed with all the challenges that came with playing hockey during a condensed schedule seemed to hit Dallas as hard as any franchise. But the emergence of Jason Robertson was a better development for this franchise than eking into a playoff spot would have been. That 2017 draft (Robertson, Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger) has the chance to be franchise-altering for the Stars.

Total playoff years: 20SCF, 19, 16, 14, 08CF, 07, 06

That's honestly better than I thought it would be.

That's almost exactly where I thought it would be.

This team would actually be a lot more fun if they were "good" for 2 seasons in a row.

On the other hand, they would be a lot less fun if they were not good every other season.

They should trade Faksa. In that article it says Benn will likely play center next season, so that makes Faksa an expensive 4th line center.

Supposedly one of the two teams that Seth Jones wants to play for is Dallas ...

Gotta assume that the other one is the Avs (born in TX, raised in CO).

I'd think Colorado is who he'd really want to play for and it just mentioning Dallas to help with multiple offers. Because if I looked at the two teams, I'd sure as *poo poo* pick Colorado to play for.

Bishop waives his NMC to allow the Stars to expose him in the expansion draft and protect Dobby. I honestly wonder whether Bishop has played his last game.

It means he's prolly still too hurt to even play next season, so Seattle won't take him (like Shea Weber being left unprotected).

The brightside is I guess we really do lose Dickinson now. Good.

I personally think Bishop is done....would be nice to get his salary off the books. But I agree no way Seattle take him.

There's also chatter from hockey Twitter about the Stars thinking about buying out Bishop, but I now wonder if they chatter was just them misunderstanding what it meant for Khudobin to be protected.

Why would they buy him out? If he's healthy, he's much better than Khudobin. If he's not healthy, then he's going on LTIR and his contract is (presumably) insured.

I disagree. There is a third option that creates a headache: he thinks he's fine, plays a bit, but still misses significant time with injury. You know, like every season of his the past half decade or so. This means they end up paying both he and Khudobin at full cap rates plus upwards of half a season of Oettinger. Oettinger isn't expensive, but every penny counts for this team.

Yes, but, although unlikely, a healthy Bishop > Khudobin & Oettinger combined, so I understand the annoying risk.

Oettinger is an interesting case. If his breakaway save percentage increased from zero percent to fifty percent, the Stars make the playoffs.
