I actually thought it was because Norm Green cheated on his wife or something to that effect so he tried to skip town to live it down.
I heard some stories that he was a bit bumpy with some of his female co-workers and he would have surely been #Metoo'd today but I don't think this was a relevant factor in his decision to move the team because his wife told him to do so, that seems too big. He put significant money in renovating the Met Center and I truly believe he wanted to make it work. Otherwise he wouldn't have bought the Gunds' part of ownership or he would have try to move earlier in L.A. before the League would cut the grass below his feet by granting Anaheim an expansion franchise.
