2021 Stars Regular Season Thread

Postby wonko80 » Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:33 pm

So I'm seeing that Sinclair, and hence Fox Sports Southwest, are still in a pissing contest with some streaming services, namely YouTubeTV that I have. So now I'm not really sure where I'll watch the games when they start in two weeks.

Back to the cord or negative seems to be the case at the moment.

MY NHL.tv will be automatically renewed for 150 CAD instead of 200. So I think I'll stick to that.

$99 USD for nhltv this shortened season. It's usually $144 or so.

The Stars will be blacked out in Dallas on nhltv, so it doesn't help them.

I'm thinking a vpn with nhltv (since I get that for the boys anyway).

Yeah, I guess I am just not watching until they get their *poo poo* together? I wouldn't even know where to begin to set up VPN for streaming through Apple TV, and that stuff usually looks like crap anyway.

You know hockey is back when five people tweet out the same line combos.

Poor Faksa.

I think the most surprising thing is that we didn’t buy out Cogliano.

The team is trying to keep as much cap space open next year as they can for a Heiskanen extension. A buyout would roll over part of the cap hit for a couple of years.

Maybe they're hoping to trade him to someone during the year.

Who steps into the position? I'm not under any impression that Cogliano can't be replaced, but I have to think in a shortened season like this one, there is some value in experience and the general durability of Cogliano.

Normally I'd say Camaano or Kiviranta but with Seguin and Pavelski not in the lineup (not sure how long Pavelski will be out) that really limits the options there.

They were healthy scratching him in the playoffs for Kiviranta, as an example.

He was slightly injured then. Cogliano still has some speed and great defense and work ethic. I'll wait to see how he is playing this season. But his hard ass style of play surely has to be taking its toll.

Good stats-heavy read on the Stars. This guy is....not a fan of Bowness.

https://theathletic.com/2284735/2021/01 ... n-preview/

Basically, he says the Stars are great defensively and in net, but their top line grades out about the same as any other team's third line, offensviely. BUT he also says that the Stars showed conclusively that they are actually quite lethal offensively in the playoffs, when they had to be, and that if they want to hang with the real contenders they should go back to that style and leave their elite goaltender(s) to do what they do. He's especially high on Heisky and Klingz, who are being held back more than any other players in the current system.

I know beating Tampa was probably too much to ask, but to try to go complete turtle against them wasn’t the way to go.

Agree to disagree. I would rather lose 2-0 than win 8-7.

Same here. I'm getting sick and tired of fans who think hockey is supposed to be some form of entertainment.

I had a weird dream last night that the Stars were in the playoffs in the first round against Boston for some reason and I could only check on the score via my phone. When I first checked my phone, the Stars were winning.

But then, I checked my phone and the Bruins scored 5 goals and Fedun -- who was now playing for the Bruins -- scored a hat trick.

I don't remember what happened in between the two phone checks. I was being chased by wolves or something far less terrifying.

Anyway I woke up in a cold sweat.

That guy is retarded anyway.

I mean who has 31 thoughts? You can't shave off 1 single thought?

It could be that 31 actually had some deeper hockey meaning.

Like 1931 is probably the last year the Maple Leafs were relevant or something.

Or, I don't know, 31 teams in the NHL (until the Kraken start).
