The Texas Stars are owned by the Dallas Stars (not just affiliated with them). The Texas Stars also have a lease for the arena down in Cedar Park (and a lot of the surrounding land) through at least 2034 if I'm not mistaken.

You know who else is owned by the Dallas Stars? The Colorado Avalanche.

I hope that article is right that just having Prime will be enough to get the games

Does Amazon take the local broadcast, meaning Josh and Razor go with?

The concept was great. The execution was disastrous.

Educated guess says yes since I don't think the Amazon normies are gonna call 42 or 84 Stars games LOL.

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
Would love to know the business arrangement here. I’m betting Amazon takes a giant slice of the ad revenue compared to Victory or Bally/Fox. Between this and the Mavs still holding the Stars’ share of arena revenue, you really have to start wondering where the extra billion for a new arena is coming from. Plano is only kicking in like $700m right?

But Amazon will have more blue chip advertisers right? Smaller slice of a bigger pie maybe?

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
I could be wrong but I’m not sure Amazon would be cutting any deals here. The worth of the entire NHL is equivalent to a rounding error on a spreadsheet to Amazon.

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
https://archive.is/Df13UIt remains unknown whether the Stars will have a linear broadcast partner in their home territory or whether Prime Video will be the exclusive place to watch the team’s local telecasts. The Stars are expected to have 71 local telecasts this season after the league’s U.S. broadcast partners, ESPN and TNT, selected 13 of the team’s games as national exclusives.
https://awfulannouncing.com/nhl/dallas- ... video.html
The Stars will now reportedly shift games to Amazon’s Prime Video, joining the Seattle Kraken as one of two NHL teams to host its local broadcasts on the platform. Users in the Dallas market would require a Prime Video subscription, which runs $8.99 per month standalone but is included at no additional cost in a standard Amazon Prime subscription, to watch Stars broadcasts next season. While the move would increase the cost of watching the Stars since Victory+ was a free, ad-supported streamer, the $8.99 monthly price would still fall well below the usual price point of local NHL, MLB, or NBA direct-to-consumer offerings, which can often approach $15 or $20 per month.

Oh yeah, I forgot this season is also the beginning of the return to an 84 game season.

I know it’s supposed to be a good thing, but I detest national games for the Stars.

I detest it because it's always *fargin'* impossible to find which service the game is on.

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
I detest if for that, for the fact that I have to pay extra on top of the 140 or whatever I pay for ESPN select, and because somehow the worst broadcasters in the game are selected for national games.

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
Now that the Stars’ broadcaster has gone belly up they shouldn’t have to worry about broadcast territory restrictions. Put an expansion team at AAC.

Re: CBA / Other Hockey Business Stuff
The new CBA kicks in today. Here are the big changes to note since all apply to the Stars:
- max contract length is now 7 seasons (Robertson extension talks can begin in January)
- no more of the paper transactions to save cap space by stealing from young guys (Nill did this a lot)
- when you put a big money guy on LTIR, you can't replace him with an expensive player unless the league and PA bless the move (when Seguin goes out again, they'll have to petition the league before making a trade)
- playoff game roster salary cap starts this season, so no more activating a guy from LTIR for the playoff roster (if they bring Seguin off of LTIR for the playoffs, putting him in the lineup will be difficult if they trade for more help at the deadline)
