I think Laine is a whiny, selfish brat, personally.

I think Laine is fine as long as expectations are lowered. View him as a goal scoring PP specialist, and he's fine. The problem is money. If he's paid like one of the league's best, he needs to score among the best given his other shortcomings.

Who gives a *poo poo* if Laine doesn’t even know what defense means? Put him out there in the offensive zone and feed in the puck a lot and he’ll score a ton.

Dickinson would've thrown it into the safety netting above the glass.

Reports coming in are that Seattle wants a 1st + prospect to not select a certain player.

I guess this is the year to do it if you have someone worth protecting since the draft is going to be so tough to guage where these 17 year olds are at. The Stars will not need to consider this.

What about offering a 1st plus a prospect to get them to select a player we don’t want anymore?

That sounds almost like blackmail haha.
Give us your 1st and a prospect, or we will take your super star...

It's going to take about 10 years of 1sts to get them to take Benn, sorry to say.

I mean, Florida kinda did that. They gave Vegas Reilly Smith to select Marchessault, which is *fargin'* retarded. Can't wait for them to trade Seattle Huberdeau to select Barkov.

The Canucks are getting pounded by covid.

I'm not sure if anyone in the NHL is vaccinated, but I maintain that this is going to be the new flu because of the mutation rate. The vaccine is not going to prevent people from contracting the newer mutations and they will have to continually update it every year just like the flu shot.

Sounds good, the firmware on my microchip probably needs to be updated once a year anyway

The players up in Canada certainly aren't vaccinated. Canada has been super slow to get the vaccine out because of supply problems.

The Canucks aren't going to win the cup this year anyway. Close it down.

Plus they are giving everyone the #1 before circling back around with #2.
My 90 year old grandma has to wait about 4 more months before #2.

I just heard some epidemiologists and doctors and they are telling exactly the same. Trying here not to say BS, the mRNA type of vaccine would allow just to make minor tweaks in the recipe to take into account new mutations. Long live Pfizer, Moderna & co.

I'd say it's ok to go with the strategy of giving the most people the first shot before going back with the second later on. The UK did that and it turns out to work well. Other vaccination campaigns also had this strategies for other diseases in Africa and it was a success.
However, you have to ensure to give the second shot within the right time range according to a well-planned process which is not the case in Canada (at least not everywhere) and that's a fail in that perspective. MY GF who is a nurse in ICU got her first shot in late December, was scheduled go get the second 2 weeks later but then it was purely cancelled with no further date, and now she will just received the second shot in mid-April, four months later (if everything stays the same, because we never know)
Now you have more and more free spots for appointments to get the vaccine but some people doesn't even show up. Instead to fill the holes with the next group of people in order of priority, they are just cancelling them to stick with the 60+ years old until the proportion reaches like 75% to 80% of people vaccinated in this age group, which is dumb and shameful.

It depends on the mutation rate and the type of mutation. Some mutations can really cause problems, especially if they confer the ability to translate proteins that are similar to our own proteins which allow the virus to entirely evade the immune system because our body thinks it's a "self-antigen" rather than a foreign one.
If something like that happens, an mRNA vaccine will be useless because it will just cause you to produce the same similar protein that the immune system will ignore.

I'm not sure. It's an unlikely scenario anyway, but it is possible.

The trade deadline movement is starting. Hall is being held out of Sabres games.

Re: 2021 NHL Regular Season Thread
So the Habs are banged up, and had a big game against Toronto last night, which they lost, but it was very competitive, because Corey Perry stepped up and scored his 8th and 9th goals of the season. Both dirty and pumped up the team. He almost tied it up all by himself too. But it's okay because we have L'Kerdneraanoing's *checks notes* 5 goals ...
