Yeah, the three writer mock drafts that the NHL posted had him going 25th/27th/21st.

Hirvonen is ranked in the 50s on Mckenzie's rankings.

^Which is why I expected the Stars to select him 30th LOL.
But it’s good to see Bob having MavBo at 26.

”There is little doubt that Bourque’s upside is that of a top-six centre in the NHL. His offensive ability is so good that he can very well be a player many wonder why he was taken as late as he was.
Most scouts will agree that Bourque is among the smartest players in the entire draft. His hockey sense is his biggest asset. He not only makes the right play with the puck in the offensive zone, but he can make plays that no one else even sees.
He has the ability to deceive defenders, leaving them wondering what he will do at all times. He’s able to make plays with his exceptional passes that are accurate more often than not, and he has a shot that can be unleashed at any point.”

A guy who helps get pucks in nets is all I cared about. This organization needs more of it.

That name can’t be real. That’s a name NHL 2004 would generate for a draft pick if you simmed 30 seasons and it ran out of names.

Also means Nill needs to draft a guy named Goose to play with him.

Sure...but can he skate the puck to center and then dump it so he can get off ice for a line change?

Eliteprospects had him ranked #13 and Dobber had him at #16, so I guess we won the draft.

Remember the old joke about every guy Bob Gainey would draft where you'd have to get four sentences into the accounting report before something about skill was brought up? Well, the Stars got a guy who is a farmer.

Everything I read about this guy sounds great. You can’t teach high IQ play. A wizard with the puck on his stick that generated offense by getting pucks on net? Yes please. And a few more just like him.

Re: 2020 NHL Draft GDT
Sounds like he really only lacks a good skating coach and he should be quite good. That's something you can definitely teach.
Maybe a better training program too but most kids need to step that up anyway just to have enough muscle to compete in the NHL.
So anyway, we'll see him play for the Stars in 5 years. Hopefully we remember his name by then.

Re: 2020 NHL Draft GDT
Teams that draft skill over everything else tend to do pretty well. They can teach the little *frakker* to skate and backcheck, but they can’t teach high-end offensive talent.
Hopefully it translates into the NHL.

I’m not a negative, cynical person and that’s why I won’t be comparing him to Jon Sim or Chris Conner.

By looking at the QC name register of names given to children, Maverick is pretty popular, however related to almost 25 different spellings. Reading Mavrik still makes my eyes bleed.

Wheeler has the Stars as a "winner."
Wheeler has the Stars as a "winner."
6. Dallas Stars
Pick: 30. Mavrik Bourque
My ranking: No. 16 (change: -14)
Bourque is one of those kids who was poised to fall, maybe by no fault of his own, due to outside circumstances. He plays in the QMJHL, a league I still maintain is underrepresented at the draft. He’s on the smaller side. He played his draft year on a Shawinigan team where his playmaking style wasn’t surrounded by suitable finishers. But the talent is undeniable. Bourque is the kind of player who can lead a line up the ice hanging onto the puck or deftly play the give-and-go game through quick, aggressive choices to the earliest available play. He’s also an impressive off-puck defender for his age, routinely fighting off checks from bigger players or lifting back possession with a smart stick. The Stars got mid-round talent with a late-round pick. That should always be the recipe.

I can't believe Ottawa picked Sanderson with Drysdale, Holtz, Rossi, and Perfetti available.
