The only dumber thing than signing Polak would have been to sign Alzner.

Link to Story About Bergevin's Arrogance

SN: But how do you explain that you weren’t willing to overpay Alexander Radulov in free agency but you were willing to overpay to get Karl Alzner? Can you see why people would have trouble understanding that? Even some of your players might have had trouble understanding it.

BERGEVIN: I can see that. But when you go to July 1 you overpay. That’s a fact. It’s a question of how much you have to overpay. The difference I have to pay for getting a defenceman and getting Radulov was not the same. Hindsight is always easier and maybe time will tell what I should have done. Maybe time will tell that three years from now the wheels are falling off and [the Dallas Stars] are stuck paying millions to [Radulov].

Looking back, when I brought Radulov here, nobody wanted him. No one. I was the only one. So we stepped up. The Montreal Canadiens stepped up and gave him a contract. To have him say we have to overpay him over what the market was willing to pay him just so he would stay? I didn’t think it was right.

You have to be careful. I understand there’s no loyalty in this game, I get that. But when nobody wanted to sign him and we stepped up and made an agreement… I told his agent that if everything goes according to plan, we’ll sit down and negotiate in January and that’s a promise. I kept my promise and they came back in January insisting on eight [years]. Eight, eight, eight. I wasn’t going to do that, and nobody else was going to do it, either. I held up my end of the deal. When you look back, why did he leave [the Nashville Predators in 2008 to play in the KHL]? Money. History repeated itself.

That's weird, I've never heard of an arrogant French Canadian.

Whatever. I'm glad we have him. He's been a breath of fresh air.

Pretty cool story about Lyle Odelein and how he basically almost died, had three organ transplants, and is now relatively healthy.

Odelein's wife was also one of the FemBots in the first Austin Powers movie.

Anyways, as if we needed another reason to root against the Sharks: the more they suck , the more likely Karlsson won't commit.

Thank you, Anaheim, for taking them down a peg in their home opener.

They lived about four houses down from me a few years ago. His son Dylan played in the same league as the twins for a while and I believe is playing club hockey for Arkansas now.

I guess that was his ex-wife. His current one is named Laurel.

As far as the Fembot thing, I couldn't actually find evidence of that. I saw some articles mention his wife, Andrea, was a Fembot. But if you go to the credits for the Fembots, none of them are named Andrea.

And yes, I did too much research on that.

I suppose it would set a dangerous and hilarious precedent if those counted. Guys just stuffing their pants with the puck and racing for the net.

Murray’s not really concussed. They have to blame his 11 goals against in two games on something.

Aaaaand Jan Kovar to be bought out by the Islanders after failing to make the team out of training camp.

The 28-year-old centre was assigned to the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers earlier this week, but did not to report to the club.
The Islanders lured the former Kontinental Hockey League star to Brooklyn this summer on a one-year, $2 million contract.
Kovar was a point-per-game forward during his time in the KHL.
