I'd like to hear Don Cherry's take on all this.

Yes, this is what I think as well.

Fair, I just take umbrage with them having to make socio political statements at all. It's the whole Dave Chappelle "Who gives a *f-bomb* what Ja Rule thinks at a time like this?" scenario.

I don't care what businesses say, but I do look at all of them doing so as a sign the pendulum is swinging.

Yeop. Standard overcorrection going on right now hopefully followed by a nice healthy milieu.

Like three weeks ago hockey players were apologizing in advance if Tweets saying "racism is bad" offended anyone.

And the racists come running to whine about the person getting fired.

On behalf of the Chinese Dallas Stars fan community, I understand that him being fired should be enough, but the organization really could have at least given us a me so solly ...

Just glad that I can go back to enjoying the lack of Stars hockey again without having to think about that guy's racist joke that I never knew about.

Stereotype jokes are ok.

You just can't think "there are too many Chinese people."

That's the Chinese government's job.

I mean, when you know your employer is eager to cut expenses, don’t give them an added excuse to fire you.

I dunno. It's certainly stupid and borderline racist, but I've seen far worse.

Ehhhh, comparing an entire race of people to rodents you are trying to exterminate seems like a pretty serious foul.

I'm torn on this issue and have been for some time. On the one hand, I think firing/canceling people for having unpopular opinions sets a dangerous precedent that is antithetical to freedom of speech (I know this is not a 1A issue, but I'm speaking in terms of the spirit of the 1A rather than legally). What's to stop large corporations like Google from using this precedent to start canceling people simply because they are a conservative (non-racist, moderate conservative)?

At the same time, a private organization has the right to disavow an opinion with which it disagrees by terminating the employee who made the comment. So, I'm honestly not sure what is right or wrong in these scenarios.

He was alluding to the fact that there are so many Chinese people in China. I see your point, but I'm not sure if he actually meant it that way.

Not apologizing for the guy, just saying I've seen and heard far worse.

I know family members who have spoken for worse about black people. Listening to them speak makes my ears bleed. I can't believe I'm related to these people.

I don't like firing or canceling people for terrible decisions on making ill-advised jokes (Allah knows I do that all the time).

If it's motivated by actual hate, though... sure. Maybe this was. The Chinese just keep coming? What does that even mean? That came off pretty bad.

But yeah, obviously the Stars can do whatever they want. Their *fargin'* team. And it's really not a great time to make yourself seem expendable, as Troy was saying.

Even if he didn’t mean it the way it sort of comes off, you’ve gotta know better than to post it somewhere public. Just text message it to someone if you really have to get those thoughts put there.

Yeah, I hesitated to say what I said here because I don't want to give the mistaken impression that I support what the guy said.

My girlfriend is a straight up Chinese immigrant who has experienced real racism while out in public so I'm in no way endorsing this.
