Conditional to what the brother wrote - did these guys involved totally screw up? Yes. Should there be consequences? Definitely. Were they stupid at a wide extent? Absolutely. Now let's hope that this won't go into a nasty witch hunt that can get out of control.

He was probably on his way out of the NHL when this season ended either way, but now he's also likely hurt his chances of getting an AHL job.

I did not know this, but Doughty's Secret Santa gift this past Christmas was a signed and inscribed Matthew Tkachuk stick. That's some A+++ level trolling right there.

New hockey league to debut in 2021. 3 ICE A tourney style league playing 3 on 3.

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/ ... 231632002/

The NHL's five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime period, instituted in 2015, gained almost immediate popularity and praise from hockey fans. Johnston — whose father Eddie won two Stanley Cups as a goaltender with the Boston Bruins and is a longtime member of the Penguins' front office — had an idea. If unknown prospects could entertain a crowd like that, Johnston thought, it could be hockey's next innovation.

Johnston is now the CEO and founder of "3ICE," a new 3-on-3 hockey league set to debut next year across North America, with several big-name coaches (six of them Hockey Hall of Famers) serving as the coaches of the eight inaugural teams. Craig Patrick, the assistant to Herb Brooks on the 1980 U.S. men's Olympic gold squad, is the league's commissioner.

Counterpoint: 3 on 3 sucks. Go back to ties.

There is a 3 on 3 basketball league that started a couple of years ago. Same idea. The basketball league largely seems to have attracted guys too old to still play in the NBA and guys who didn't make it who don't want to go play in leagues overseas. It's all about offense.

They also run that league in the summer after the NBA is done. That's harder to pull off with hockey.

I like the idea. However, I'm wondering if it would get old to watch too much of it?

What if there is a tie at the end of a game? Do they go to 2 on 2?

Nintendo's Ice Hockey was a real precursor: they already went to the 4 on 4 format, with the possibility to be 2 on 2 when 2 players are in the penalty box in each team.

You eat it. 3 on 3 is one of the best things to come around in a long time. Expand 3 on 3. Make it 20 minutes if need be.

Love how hockey writers can only compare a Russia player to other Russians.

3 on 3 will get boring after a while just like the shootout did.

Full-time 3 on 3 is a stupid idea.

Mixed feelings about the 3-3. I first thought it sucked when it was implemented, it was a real slaughter towards goalies, guys was rushing headless in the 37 directions of the rink, that was quite ridiculous. Then players, teams adapted, went more into a possession game with calculated risks while decreasing the luck factor, hence being more watchable. It's very popular because it's fast, intense, offensive and led to goals quite rapidly and that's what the League wants: a winner, right here right now.

This game (I think 3-3 is like pre-90's hockey: a different sport) has the advantage not to be an individual skill challenge like the shootout, but I'm afraid it would tend to an observation game with both teams taking less and less risks, eventually getting boring.

In an ideal world, I would extend 3-3 overtimes to 10 minutes. If it's still a tie, let it a tie and no extra point for both teams. But I know ties will never be back...

Unless there's some tiebreaker rule that would award it to Pastrinak, Ovechkin has won his NINTH Rocket Richard trophy.

In a pandemic shortened season, this year's Art Ross winner finished:
- with 23 points more than Benn did during the full 82 game season Benn played when he won it.
- with 71 points more than Benn did this season.

Even the Stars admitted that Benn winning the Art Ross was bad overall for the team.

Should’ve sold high on Benn right after that season.

Also, he only won it because Kane got hurt.

Yeah but at least Benn makes $1m more per year than Draisaitl.

Benn would be fine on a $4MM - $5MM a year deal without signing bonuses and trade protection.
