So let me stress this point again, as confirmed by multiple sources yet again around the NHL and NHLPA over the past few days, the idea that the NHL would return next season with a salary cap lowered by millions of dollars and teams scrambling to fit current player salaries under that lower cap makes very little sense. Both the NHL and NHLPA can at their whim — if they both agree of course — to shift aside the current CBA rules on these matters and do what’s right in such an exceptional circumstance. So the salary cap next season, whatever that number ends up being, will make sense for everyone involved.

I was really hoping that Radulov would be NHL patient zero for the lulz.

Why the hell shifting the season remainder until October ?

Another easy solution would be to add 20 additional days to each month and create 1 or 2 more months (let's say "Covender" and "Springender") to be inserted between April and May. I'm sure the Stanley Cup final could be played before July, 50th.

Players have every incentive to see the NHL recover as many lost ticket sales dollars as possible. If the league shortens the season and suffers a big revenue loss, the players take it in the shorts through the escrow process.

When the Stanley Cup was cancelled because of a Pandemic.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/ ... 180974439/

Midway through a marathon hockey game, in the midst of what is still regarded as one of the most intense championship series in the history of the sport, Joe Hall skated off the ice, exhausted and feverish. It was March 29, 1919, and Hall, a 37-year-old defenseman, was one of the stars of the National Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiens, who were in Seattle to play the Metropolitans of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association on their home ice for the Stanley Cup.

The sports bloodbath is beginning. After the initial public PR moves of agreeing to pay in game arena staff, teams are now starting to lay off and slash pay of their business people.

Not a shock. Lots of other businesses are doing the same. For most companies it doesn't take long to burn through cash with none coming in.

I thought I was supposed to have 6 months of cash on hand to deal with uncertainty? Do business only have 6 days?

Some have none and live loan to loan. Basically living paycheck to paycheck.

Yesterday I read that Sinclair Broadcasting isn’t even returning calls or emails to its contractors that produce their sporting events on Fox Sports. A Detroit guy is hoping to get some pay while out of work and when games resume work for less to repay. But Sinclair is not responding.

Favorite joke from this madness so far: I miss hockey so much I drove by a Buffalo Wild Wings just so I could boo three teams at once.

Ovy has now lost almost two full seasons to lockouts and now this. He’d be at 800 now instead of 700.

But Canadian media people would still be saying, "You forgot to include goals Gretzky scored in juniors! He's still #1!"

One of the many items for the NHL to figure out: how to handle trade contingencies.

Maybe they could proportion that out. We played x percent of the season, so that percent of 21 would be the new goal total.

Remember when Neal had 7 goals in his first 4 games?

Good times.

Caused me to purchase a Neal jersey. Quickly found it’s way in my closet next to my lime green liesure suit never to be worn.
