I wonder how many teams in minor and junior leagues will go bankrupt from these league shutdowns. They don't tend to be sitting on a lot of cash.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Another conspiration is taking place to definitely prevent Benn, Seguin and Pavelski to reach the 20-goal mark.

And if so, this sucks because we won't have the chance to see the Stars crumbling out of a playoff spot by the end of the regular season.

The NHL has cancelled all morning skates, practices, and team meetings today. Get ready for the suspension of the season.

The NHL, unlike other leagues, is so heavily dependent on gate revenue. That's going to absolutely wreck a ton of teams.

Mark Cuban had a nice idea last night when he said he wants to find a way to make sure all of the part time arena and parking people still get paid, you know there are a lot of owners who are very pissed about that. It will be interesting to see if other teams feel peer pressured to follow suit.

Yep. The seven or eight home games lost may not be a make or break, but no playoff revenue will hurt.

And the Stars own half of Center Operating Company, which runs the AAC. So even in a situation where there was a hockey-specific work stoppage, they would still get revenue from that. With Mavs games being shut down, and likely most concerts/events being cancelled or postponed, that is going to compound their problems. Then you add on top of that events at the Frisco arena and other local rinks being shut down - USA Hockey cancelled the national championship tournaments - some of which were to be held locally. The American Collegiate Hockey Association (the organizing authority for the top level of college club hockey) is supposed to hold its national championship tournament in Frisco March 19-29. Haven't seen anything today about that, but would actually be surprised if that goes on. All of that is lost revenue.

Now add on top of that lost economic impact - no hotel rooms for those teams/spectators coming in. No eating at restaurants for those people, etc. Going to have a multiplier effect.

They can go to hell. Those people aren't billionaires. They should absolutely be taken care of. They did nothing wrong.

I first read this as you telling the arena workers to go to hell.

Years from now we’ll look back at these moments and laugh.

Then even more years later we’ll all be dead.

It seems to me that playing to empty arenas is a better measure but even then, the lost revenue from ticket sales will be a major blow to several teams.

This is getting out of hand. I'm in the biomedical field and all of the MDs I know think the panic is way blown out of proportion. The average age of death is over 80. Most of us will just feel like we have a worse version of the flu and get over it.

I'm not saying we shouldn't take it seriously, but I, and my medical colleagues feel that the media and certain parts of the government are inciting needless panic around the country and it's really frustrating to people within the medical community.

Absolutely, I heard the exact same things from medical staff working in ICU units. Old people already in bad shape with other health issues are the one who likely don't get through. You can't exclude complications occurring for common adult healthy people, but it's really rare. Like the seasonal flu in fact.

I just cancelled my two-week vacations in Florida. Not because I'm afraid of the virus, but because of the potential consequences of measures, with a strong likelihood to be quarantined either in QC City or in Florida. With young kids and stuff, better be cautious.

Yep, cancelled also.

And the USHL, the top junior league in the US, has suspended its season.

This break will give everyone time to sort out which team gets to hire Monty.

It will give Benn a much needed break given how tired he is.

https://www.thebeaverton.com/2020/03/de ... -playoffs/

While the Leafs have been eliminated in the past by the Boston Bruins, the Washington Capitals, and the New Jersey Devils, this recent loss marks the first time the team has been officially eliminated purely by the fact that they are always destined to be so.

I think Benn should donate half his salary back to the Stars given his production.

We will probably see most minor league teams go this route.

Yeah, unfortunately most ECHL and other minor league owners aren't billionaires. Some are owned by NHL owners or other groups, but the margins for those businesses are very slim.

Say what you will about Cuban, but good on him for starting this and for peer pressuring almost the entire industry into paying the hourly front line folks for missed games. Nobody has give a *poo poo* about this in the past, and nobody paid hourly staff for missed games during previous lockouts.
