TC 2019

Postby B Kat » Fri Sep 06, 2019 10:38 am

Tournament starts today. Looks like a pretty good lineup. Two (hopefully) good goalies and slew of good prospects. 4 first rounders for Dallas, 2016-Tufte, 2017-Robertson, 2018-Dellandra & 2019-Harley. Some interesting undrafted prospects, Felhaber, Kiviranta, Djuse. A few potentially close to NHL time. Reviewing all rosters, I'd say Dallas could win this one. (Just jinxed us to last place :) )

That game today will tell us whether Harley is a draft bust or the next Karlsson.

I watched the 3rd period. After Robertson had a guy spittin’ chicklets for 4 minutes...Oettinger shut them down. He’s good.

Well the hat trick was definitely the highlight. But like most of these games, it was good/bad. The Stars looked quite good for the first ten minutes of the game. They controlled the puck, NY had zero shots on goal, all lines were rolling, Robertson scores a nice goal in tight. Then they fell apart. NY scored to tie, end of the first 1-1. NY kept up the pressure and before you could blink, NY is up 3-1. Their first goal was was a cluster, tipped after defending for a good bit. The second, a PP goal, huge rebound, in in a second. Then Damiani got a bloody nose, didn’t see how, he sat on the bench and bled on the ice. The trainer comes over and gives him a towel and they drop the puck. With all that blood still on the ice. Momentum shift. Kiviranta scores two quick goals, tie game, 3-3 to end the 2nd period. But NY, who was missing The Kaapo Kakko, scored two quick goals, and Kiviranta’s hat trick wasn't enough.

Goalie, Point wasn’t completely to blame, but he sure didn’t help matters. Obviously Kirviranta looks like a player. I thought Porco looked very fast. Harley looked good on the PP, less so on the defense, he was on the ice for 4 of those goals against. He was paired with Gleason for the most part. Tufte, not only has a sweet tuft of blond hair, he looked strong. I think he’s gonna be alright. Robertson (ours, NY had one on D and he killed us), looked comfortable, but outside of the goal, I didn’t notice him. Perhaps, not his fault. I can see why the decision on Dellandrea is going to be a tough one. He could use the AHL for sure, but he was very strong on the puck. Douglas is 6’9” and that is all. No fight this game, nor did he didn’t use his size. Djuse looked interesting.

There were more people than ever at this tourney. Too many. I blame Toronto’s inclusion, which hopefully will not continue.

Today’s game is early. 2pm ET.

"Porco looked very fast" - I propose his nickname henceworth should be Stuck Pig.

The good news, Stars won today 5-3 over Columbo, and finished first in their division. The bad news, tomorrow they play either the Leafs or the Wings, who are playing each other later today.

Better game, better goalie, Oettinger. Tufte scored a nice goal and Porco was still fast. He had a nice breakaway, no finish. Still liking Djuse, and it looked like the coaches did as well, he was out in key minutes. Stars were up early 2-0 after 1, had the perfect period. Two goals, a couple nice kills, but they weren't taxed. The second period was a bit penalty filled, including a 5-3 penalty kill for Dallas. They did a great job. But of course, Columbus made it a game, almost tied it, but the Stars sealed it with an empty netter.

Tufte continued to play strong. He's a big boy. Mascherin looked good as well. I'd expected Robertson and Caamano to look head and shoulders above, but neither stood out. Robertson did not seem very engaged, but toward the end when the game was on the line he played harder.

Rangers have Kakko playing, right? Is he all that and a bag of chips?

He was sick for the first two games, and did not play against the Stars. Looks like he did play today against Minnesota. Score sheet says he was all that. 1 goal, 3 assists and a bag of Doritos.

Also, today’s Stars/CLB game included the one female ref. I thought it was funny when she went over to the Stars bench to have a chat with the players. She got the power, boys. :)

There’s no reason why women can’t be refs. Maybe being a linesman would be tough because those are the officials tasked with breaking up fights, but refs are all about judgement. Women can handle the job of calling penalties just fine.

I guess the main hinderance in seeing one in the NHL is that refs all seem to come from lower level North American leagues where there are currently no women and where women would face harder conditions because fighting and line brawls remain such a part of the game. Fighting is mostly gone from the NHL, but it’s still a big part of the lower levels.

The lack of upper body strength would get them in trouble during scrums. But, I suppose if you have enough males refs out there, the female refs can just sit back and watch and tally up the penalties.

Instead of using linespersons to break up fights, why not try to prevent fighting by having the players attend conflict resolution workshops?

I really don’t see why we need anymore. We’ve got like 12 of them in skimpy outfits for every game. For some reason, they’re really keen on fixing the ice with shovels.

i think they should learn to appreciate the ice as it truly is instead of always trying to “fix” it.

Is the ice really being damaged or is it just building character? We can’t just cover up all our wounds and forget they ever happened.
