It's really a thread for one person.

But I think this is a fine signing. Nill needed a depth d-man since he was heading into free agency with a couple of openings. He didn't sign Polak to play big minutes. We're talking a 6/7 kind of role.

Then again, Nill also didn't sign Polak to be a top four defender last season either, but the situation changed when Johns and Methot were unable to play and Honka was awful. Three guys ahead of Polak on the depth chart couldn't get it done, so he was given the equivalent of a battlefield promotion.

Signing Polak shouldn’t change the plan much entering the season. Nill still needs to add a RD to play on the second pair because no one on the roster is capable of doing the job. If Nill fails to do his job by adding more help, then yeah, I guess we should be angry at Nill for failing to upgrade his defense.

The one point I'd like to make that I'm sure no one will object to is that Polak is awesome and his advanced stats prove it.

My usual budget for irritating Todd is $1.5 million, but I'll allow it.

Polak had the second most short handed ice time on a top 5 PK this past year. I don’t really have a problem with keeping him around.

Good thing we've got the best goaltender in the entire NHL.

The idea that Polak has ever been on the ice for a single goal against is laughable.

Strange how both goalies had maybe their best seasons of their careers, yet you think it's all because of Bishop.

And Faksa. And Heiskanen. And a scheme where every single forward hangs back below the faceoff dots.

For some reason I thought Polak signed for $1MM last season, and I was upset that he got almost a $1MM raise. But he was signed for $1.3MM last season, so his raise is basically the change from the ashtray in Frugal's car.
