The hit rate on those picks by the people paid a lot more to make them tells me no one really knows.
I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Pronman is a very well-regraded scout. If Nill has just taken the best player available per Pronman’s rankings, we’d have like 37 Cups by now.

Absolutely. The point is if this guy were ever capable of producing any predictions with any greater than usual accuracy he would be offered a steady paycheck by someone with deeper pockets.

I think being one of the draft media darlings pays decently more than being an NHL scout.

Only because most don’t predict anything. If one was able to, his value would be high and a team would pay it.

We should do a dartboard test for rounds 2+ or 3+ and compare in a few years.

And that’s the thing. I’m not going to say this Pronman guy is better than NHL scouts. It’s more that no one seems to be particularly good at picking 3rd and 4th rounders. Even the people getting paid the most to do it have terrible success rates in later rounds.

Jim Nill and his staff have an especially abysmal record. One so bad that I think any blogger could have matched or beat it. Here’s the list of player drafted by Nill after the 2nd round to ever play an NHL game: Nick Paul (traded to Ottawa in the Spezza deal, he plays about 20 NHL games a season) and goalie Dylan Ferguson (traded to Vegas in the Methot deal, played one game last season).

It's hard to say if Pronman is any more accurate than actual NHL scouts, because NHL scouts keep their boards secret. But it's pretty easy to go back and see how accurate Pronman is... he's been around awhile.

The Blackhawks are going to suck for a while again. This pleases me.

Well they are in our division so....

Btw, weren’t people trying to claim we were in a weak division this year? In retrospect I really think not.

Maybe you haven't heard, but the Blues were last in the NHL earlier this season.

Great read on a couple of things, but most notably how scouting has changed in the last ten years. Apparently there were 20 picks in the first three rounds of 2009 that never saw a single game in the NHL, and almost every one was Canadian/American, and Big.
In other words, Good Canadian Boys.
