Game 82: Wild @ Stars - 7 pm

Postby Troy McClure » Sat Apr 06, 2019 3:23 pm

Bishop may start.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Zuccarello is “on track”... yeah, I’m sticking with the injury conspiracy.

They’re going to get Bishop injured again at this rate.

It was funny to see Comeau outrace a guy to a puck for a really good centering pass to Cogliano, and then listen to Razor talking about Comeau’s speed. Because where was capt. buttonhook’s speed during the first 70 games of the season?

They could finish this with 50 shots. Damn.

I still hate the offsides review.

I could describe the 3rd period scoring burst as a “Tyler-nado”, but “Tyler-nado” is too cheesy for even me to use. Therefore I will not be using the phrase “Tyler-nado”.

The only thing that would’ve made that game better is if someone had the courage to describe that 3rd period as a ‘Tyler-nado’.

Ah well.

It’s time to go the last 1:42 of The Four Horsemen on Nashville.

Frustrating game, and lucky on that offsides, eh. I just thought for sure Minn would put one in when the Stars were just drilling them with no result. But at last they started going in. Stars looked good.

I wish it had a time limit. The offside happened 4 seconds before the goal? No goal. 30 seconds before? Goal.

I guess. But it’s not like this is consistently applied. Offsides calls are potentially wrong all the time, but we only allow challenges when goals are scored. We also don’t allow challenges for missed penalties that occur before goals other than goalie interference or for missed hand passes.

Seems like it was brought in to fix something no one was complaining about.

You can’t put a time limit on what’s right. If the truth gets in the way of a minuscule amount of somebody’s life time, then so be it. GET IT RIGHT.

You know what else is wrong? Calling it “offsides.”

They can challenge an offside play at any point in the game, with the threat of a 2 minute minor. They only choose to do so when it matters.

Coaches can only challenge after a goal has been scored. They can also only challenge offsideses’s and goalie interference. All of the many other instances where truth could matter are not subject to review. The rule is very limited and doesn’t serve to seek truth in all correctable forms. Only a couple. For reasons no one really knows.

I’m glad it’s a rule. The offside play tonight was very, um, offside. They got it right. Minnesota scores first and its a different game.

I guess. I just look back on the 20 years of Stars hockey prior to the rule change. Plenty of goals were scored where the play might have been offsides, and no one cared because ... well ... because there was no super slow mo HD available to make second guessing these things a simple matter.

I didn't see this one, but judging from the box score, did the Wild totally give up on this game?

They played hard until the Stars scored. They completely quit after the Stars scored the second.
