Parking passes are going fast. Better jump on them if you want to park in Fair Park.

Also, lame:

https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/stars ... ir-midway/

Apparently they are going to turn the Cotton Bowl into a big ranch, and:

Musical acts: Mayer said the league would announce the musical performers in the coming weeks, but did say the two acts were country artists with ties to Dallas and Nashville. One of them is a Grammy nominee this year and the other previously won awards.

One performance will be before the game close to introductions and the other will be during the first intermission. Mayer said it was possible there was a third performer for the national anthem.

I knew it would be, but come on. The home of Pantera, the Toadies, Jibe, and so many other awesome rock bands and we get whatever bullshit pop trash they are trying to pass off as country these days?

Well. I mean the important part of Pantera is dead.

The Toadies would be perfect, though.

I am from Texas and the majority of the people I know from Texas despise country music.

Dallas is a huge country market though, but I’d say the intersection of hockey fans is more hard rock.

The guy on the floor might as well wear a black cloak because he's obviously trying to be Jon Snow.

It was cool the first time they did it with all the snow falling and all that. But, it's as cliched and boring as the All-star game for me at this point. If you do it every year and multiple times per year for some of those years, it gets old.

I went to one.

The negatives: Interesting spectacle and all, but not a good hockey watching experience. My “good” seats were twice as far back as sitting in the last row of the AAC’s 300 level. And the broadcast cameras block fan views. The game of hockey ends up being pretty quiet when you’re in an open air arena, so things like pucks hitting goalie pads are not audible in a football stadium. The snow flurries also made it hard to see what was going on at times.

The positives: I didn’t have to listen to Doc Emerick. Also, as low rent as much of what the NHL does, they actually put a lot of effort into the Winter Classic.

I don’t want to *poo poo* on it too much because I know plenty of people are excited to go.

I’ve been to one as well. You’re there for the atmosphere and the spectacle. You’re not there to watch an actual good hockey game. But you follow the Stars, so watching good hockey probably isn’t your end goal anyway.

Which one did you attend? I went to the one in Michigan’s Big House. I wonder if a smaller ballpark would have been a better viewing experience than a huge football stadium.

I agree with most of the comments. There's not only the Winter Classic, but the Stadium Series and the Heritage Classic. Too many outdoor games kill the outdoor games and the whole concept. It has to remain a time-to-time event, but it's all about money: You have new gear, unique stuff related to the event, and the whole thing is well marketed. As long as the League makes money out of it, it will continue. However, it's cool to attend it at least once, just for the experience.

Back at the time in Switzerland, we played against our most hatred rival in their 40k-seat soccer stadium. The place wasn't sold out (tickets were dramatically expensive compared to a regular game), ice quality sucked (as well as the game itself) as well as the overall atmosphere. Only positive point, we won 1-0 in OT after an ugly garbage goal that has to be reviewed twenty time at least. Generally, the people didn't like the experience, costs were too high with almost no ROI, no outdoor game was organized ever since -- and won't be organized in the near future.

I am fully expecting a subpar game experience, but a nice overall experience.

I noticed they passed over Celina Rae. She’s one of the better singers around the league. Replaced by some other Voice. Too bad for her.

I guess I'm insane. She has a strong voice, doesn't floof it up too much outside of the very end and her rendition of Oh Cananda when we play Montreal is, magnifique.

Having been to a little over half of the NHL arenas (and knocking two more out in a little over a week), gotta agree with B Kat. Dallas does an excellent job with game presentation, including Celena.
