3/19 Panthers @ Stars - 7:30 - Meltdown continues

Postby Troy McClure » Tue Mar 19, 2019 10:58 am

Bishop will start.

Monty is clearly getting desperate. He's mixing things up pretty wildly once again in hopes of finding any goal scoring from the forwards.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

So is that the least feared 3rd/4th line combination in the modern era in terms of goal scoring?

I feel bad for Monty. He's doing a decent job with a really sub-part roster as constructed.

Nope. Monty is scratching Spezza tonight.

Wonder if that'll be the big deal it was when Hitchcock did it last season.

Faksa, Cogliano and Dickinson are not feared for their offense, but their ability to shut down the opposing forwards, the main duty of the 3rd and 4th lines.

Which is fine, these Stars are a defense first, low scoring team. They get into the most trouble when they try too hard to score, which they are not very good at doing. So just stick with what works. Shut the other team down. Hope for the best.

I get defense being an identity, but having your offensive plan be "hope" is a terrible idea.

By that calendar, it appears the Benn hat tricks should start flowing in bout two weeks.

Very unceremonious end to the shutout streak.

Sure is sad to see the Stars struggle to get much done against these non-playoff teams.

That angle from behind the net did a great job of showing how Klingberg's shot got through. Great shot.

I enjoyed Josh and Razor mentioning how Nichushkin "had his best game this season". He drew two penalties and got an assist. I mean, that's a fine game, but if that is labeled your "best game of the season" then his bar has fallen so, so low.

He has played great this season, and that powerplay goal against probably isn't really his fault, but Bishop sure seems to get beat a lot short side (particularly for such a big guy)

Yeah, he was cheating to the middle a bit on that one and Barkov took advantage of him.

I was expecting his streak to be ended by a soft goal. I was right.

And now my wife had to point out how the coach is getting a lot of screen time today for two obvious reasons.

I wouldn't call the first goal soft - I believe it was deflected and went against the grain.

Well, he was cheating in. I guess I should have more correctly stated I expected it to end early in the game in a ho-hum fashion. It's not like it was a breakaway or powerplay that it was scored on.

Wow, I haven't seen a guy throw a stick like that since the very first Stars game I attended in person in December 1993 when the Stars lost to Quebec and a Stars defender did just that.

I glanced down at the computer right when that happened and thought for a second Radulov had pulled a Patrik Stefan. Laughed loud enough to irritate the dogs
