GDT: 12/29 Stars v Dead Wings 7 pm

Postby cdanew » Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:43 am

From an article on the Wings' losing streak:

While sinking in the standings improves their draft lottery odds, it’s tough on team personnel. Especially the last two games, because the Wings carried play the first period against the Penguins, carried play most of last Sunday’s game against the Maple Leafs. Both opponents, though, featured high-powered offenses led by superstars who can grab momentum with one shift.

Clearly, the Stars have got this one.

Oh yeah. Gonna be a blowout. For the Wings.

Yeah, mediocre teams tend to follow up a nice unexpected road win with a stinker at home against a bad team. That's how the road to 10th place is paved.

And Bayruther is demoted. Not really surprised there. Bayruther was probably the weakest link on defense last night. He had a nice start when he was first called up. Hopefully, he builds on it.

Bayreuther is like Honka but with a longer rope. Lots of offensive upside, made some crisp passes in all three zones, but prone to mental mistakes and defensive lapses. Also, just generally got shoved around.

This also describes Fedun, who's amazing ability to get pucks on net seems to have dried up in recent weeks.

Maybe he's rooming with Honka.

Bayreuther probably wasn't the worst of the bunch, but he's the one who doesn't have to clear waivers, so down he goes.

Fedun was pretty good last night, but this team seriously needs Johns to get healthy again. Johns will never be the guy we hoped he would turn into, but he's a solid guy who eats up minutes, can play PP or PK just fine, and chips in more offense than what we are going to get from everyone not named Klingberg or Heiskanen.

Bingo!

Bayreuther is a good D prospect. He's done a great job up in the NHL for this point in his career. I'm sure he's learned a lot in this NHL stint. He'll keep progressing in the AHL. And I like that he isn't afraid to shoot the puck.

What exactly happened to Johns anyway?

Non-stop headaches. Usually when skating... which is, like, not a good sign.

He's been skating before practices, which is a good sign. It means he's able to work out without getting serious symptoms. But he's not a practice participant yet.

Yes. These are apparently concussion-related headaches.

So what does Monty say to the team or the media at morning skate tomorrow?

Probably a good ice breaker to be had. "Anything interesting in the news yesterday?"

I’m actually fairly interested in this game now.

Does Bennguin respond by sulking and dogging it even more? I don’t think any of us here at TSF would be surprised by that because we’re not idiots.

Or does Bennguin respond by finally showing some *fargin'* balls this season?

My money’s on the former. But my real money is on the UFC 232 prelims and PPV, which I will be watching instead of this horseshit.

I’ll also be ignoring this game in favor of OU/Alabama. Let me know how it goes though.

If they sag and play down to their competition, an ailing Detroit, lots of people will be tuning out.

The fact that Detroit wants Jack Hughes more than they want this game probably makes it a gimme. *Probably*.

Maybe a genius move. Let them individually show they are motivated. If they are, that might be two lines doing something.
