Kind of interesting that the same issue which doomed the Stars in the 2nd half last season is the same issue which is rearing its head a bit now. During that bad stretch where the Stars fell out of a playoff position, Kari generally played well (yeah, go ahead and hate on him, but he did) - the Stars just could not score. So here we are now with the Stars' blueline decimated by injuries, but the defense and goaltending are generally keeping them in games. It's the damn offense that can't score (on the road at least).

I’m assuming the issue with low scoring at away games is that they’re not able to get the same quality of performance enhancing drugs as they can at home.

Kari only played well because the team wasn't scoring. If they had been, then there would have been pressure, which means he would have let in his usual two to three soft untimely demoralizing goals a game. That's how sports psychology works. Can't spectacularly blow the lead if you don't have one.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

I think it was the timing of the goals against as much as anything else. Kari was a master of allowing a goal within a minute of the Stars scoring one or allowing one late in a period. He was a soul crushing goalie who killed the spirit of his teammates.

That's why his actual numbers aren't bad, which so many fans point to. It was never his overall numbers, just the timing of the bad goals (and the consistency of letting in bad goals).

Also many were, to the eyeballs, weak goals. Like unscreened shots from the point or sharp angle ones (which Bishop is guilty of allowing as well).

His stats were bad, too. I think his last season as a starter he actually was literally the worst goalie in overtime in NHL history.
