The opening credits should be the opening video for every game.

And if the season goes poorly, they can rework the intro to be based on Chernobyl.

Bishops’s GAA for the season: 3.6. Not great, not terrible.

https://theathletic.com/1066908/2019/07/08/what-are-the-chances-a-free-agent-is-worth-his-new-contract/

Basically, you can count the amount of “good” contracts on one hand. Carl Gunnarsson is underpaid as a defensive stalwart, Corey Perry is a decent bet to provide solid top nine value at minimal cost, Richard Panik is much better than a $2.5 million player even in a lesser role, and Joe Pavelski may be old, but he was the second best forward on the market and tied for the fifth largest cap hit. The rest are either solidly market value (ie. close to 50/50), mediocre, bad bets, or straight-up disastrous.

That article also shows how much more valuable RFAs are than UFAs.

But GMs don't want things to get mildly awkward during Free Shrimp Night at the country club, so...

Another take on UFAs. Pretty brutal. The Radulov contract comes across as one of the very, very, very few that actually provide any sort of value:

I can’t argue with any of that. UFA money should be fun money spent on a dude to plug a weak spot. It shouldn’t be the backbone of your roster.

Of course, to play the broken record again, you don’t have this many holes if you hit on even an average number of draft picks.

That seems like a good deal for both sides. Really good for Dickinson if he ups his production over the next couple years.

I'm fine with that. I don't think he's really a key component type guy, but that's not big money so whatever.

I’m very surprised it was that reasonable considering what Janmark got. Now we have just under a million dollars left to give to Honka. Need to be as close to the cap as possible to take full advantage of Hanzal’s eventual LTIR.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

I’m especially happy that Dickinson is gonna get a big dose of influence from Pavelski.

Is Pavelski able to give him new hands?

And Honka's qualifying offer eats up $874k of the $970k cap space.

Give him exactly a 96K raise and in the end that is some actual good ass cap management by Nill.

Man I just can't get past the every day stress of having Honka unsigned.

I don't really get the point. He's 33 and probably wouldn't do much more than those guys. Maybe a few extra points, but nothing that great.

Loui Eriksson is making $6m/year for the next three years and hasn't broken 30 points in three seasons. The only way I take on that deal is if it gets us out of the Benn contract.

His contract is crazy with how front loaded it is. He's getting a big bonus payment today, and with that he'll have been paid 78% of the value of his six season contract even though he's only played half of it. He's destined to go to a *poo poo* organization like Ottawa who can use his big cap hit to get to the floor while keeping the owner from paying much in salary.

I love it when you find out players that aren't worth even half their AAV are paid by way of superstar-structured contracts.

He has basically negative trade value at this point.

Also, I'm calling it now. Benn's going to have a good season.

I hope so.

Assuming (and it's a major assumption) that we have a playoff spot locked up at some point, we should sit Benn the rest of the way so he can rest up. I also wonder if scratching him every so often in the playoffs might actually be better than trying to play him every game to let him rest up. He might contribute more in the games he does play.
