I would like to be the first Stars fan to point out that Perry is a saint among men and the refs in this league just have it out for him. Also I never liked that Zuccarello guy.

Have to trade Benn first.

Last time we made the playoffs without him was 11 years ago. Numbers don't lie.

Presuming both the Pavelski and the Perry signings turn out to be true, I am moderately enthused about this free agency period. Both players are on the right contract term and value, and can bring a lot to the team without being long-term anchors. This seems like what free agency should be - adding important pieces with a bit of overpayment, but nothing you look at and think "holy *poo poo*, that's BAD" from the day the deal is signed.

I guess it wasn't Lovejoy. This also probably does away with any hopes of the team signing or trading for a #4 d-man.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Sekera better be for a veteran minimum type deal.

Edit: Oh well, nevermind. Not a fan of that price.

Well, that's kind of the point. He's played 24 games in 2018/19 and 36 games in 17/18. I'll be honest and not profess to know tons about Sekera, but 33 year olds with torn achilles and torn ACLs in the past two years don't typically get faster and healthier.

If it's only for a year, I suppose its an OK gamble.

Dallas isn't going to sign a big name D this season. They are sitting pretty well (of course a legit #4 would be better), but Johns may come back and they have a decent pool in the AHL. Score more (which what was missing last season) seems like the aim.

He did really good after he returned, his puck moving ability is still there. He won't have to log big minutes anymore. Before he missed all those games he was a #2 defenseman.

Look at the other contracts defenseman are getting Jordie Benn $2 million, Stralman over $5 million. This is a great deal.

I kind of agree with Jason. Seeing what other, not-awesome defenseman are signing for, I'd rather have Sekera on a one-year, low-risk contract.

If the cap hit is low and both and Perry aren't good, it's easier for Montgomery to sit them at $1.5MM each against the cap, too.

I'd rather not have Sekera than have him. He's basically just filling in the Methot role of D-Man Who Never, Ever Plays (Stars fans: "But he's cheaper!"). And even when he did play, he was pretty miserable as an alleged "offensive defenseman." He's basically Goligoski, but injured.

It feels weird saying this, but I don’t think we have a pressing need for a defenseman.

Honestly, even if Perry and Sekera play 30 games a piece, for the money, who cares? They have lots of young guys they can move in and out of the lineup to see what sticks.

Didn't Goligoski's departure kind of screw the team over?

It's weird seeing that the Stars got 2 of the TSN top-10 free agents.

Some idiot on reddit has these as our forward lines for next year:

Guri-Segs-Rads
Benn-Hintz-Pavs
Hartman-Fox-Perry
Janni-Dickie-Comeau

Gurianov as the number one LW? Seriously?

Also, I don't think the Minnesota Wild will agree to pay for one of our forwards....

Arguably the second best skater available. Pavelski’s age is obviously a concern, but Dallas did well to keep the term at three years and he should still provide full value over the entirety of his contract. A rare bargain for a high-end forward in unrestricted free agency. Those that fear a repeat of the Patrick Marleau ordeal should note that Pavelski is both younger and better than Marleau was at the start of his deal.
