Let’s assume Pavelski gets 7. That leaves us with 5.5 to spend. More money can be made available too in the form of trading away Janmark+ etc.

And then Hanzal to LTIR at the start the year to free up the space to facilitate a trade on D if need be during the regular season or at the TDL.

Don't forget signing Dickinson, so around $2MM there.

5 yrs +$6.5M-7M/yr + 1st round pick for a dude that is a set up machine when we don’t have goal scorers? Man, that’s salty. Pavelsky for 3 yrs is the easy pick there.

Ah *f-bomb* I forgot about The Dick still being an RFA. He’s our one loose end right now (I don’t count Honka). All the more reason to unload Janmark, and one of Cogliano/Comeau if possible.

I wouldn’t be upset if we sign Hartman in the $1MM range.

The Wild are “aggressively” pursuing Hartman, so let them overpay.

I would also be on board with adding Dzingel if he comes cheap enough. Surely we can trade one of Cogliano / Janmark / Comeau if we can get a young, fast middle six guy who can score. And he should theoretically be cheap enough that would could acquire a high-end free agent plus Dzingel.

I'd like to add lots of things, but if all we do is sign Pavelski then that's fine. Also clearing out the bottom 3 to allow for younger guys to maybe make an impact is great.

Perry and Pavelski would be fine with me. Would like Hartman too but not if he's too expensive.

C. Space has already stolen a roster spot from and outperformed one player. I wouldn’t be so quick to give him up.

Next joke: I like to imagine Pavelski’s first time walking into the Stars locker room will be like at the end of Endgame when Thor joined the Guardians and immediately took charge.

https://theathletic.com/1055085/2019/06/30/stars-will-sign-joe-pavelski-to-three-year-deal-go-all-in-on-competitive-window/

Whether it was a stealth move or a coincidence, the Dallas Stars didn’t have media availability scheduled during Day 3 of development camp this past Wednesday. The prospects were headed to an off-ice team-building exercise, a local ropes course and, without that post-session interview carrot, most media members passed on a trip to Frisco. So with fewer eyes in the building and the back-of-house facilities locked down, the Stars took the opportunity to make their pitch to Joe Pavelski.

Assuming the concussion issues are in the past, the handful of scouts I polled on Pavelski’s potential impact in Dallas like the deal.

“Very good fit,” one scout said via text. “He’s got a lot of game left.”

“He’s a goal scorer; that’s what they were really missing last season in Dallas after Benn, Seguin, and Radulov,” another scout said. “Finishing is a talent that not everyone has. They had players that could create, but you really need to have that final instinct to put up goal totals (like Pavelski) it’ll open things up for them. Plus it’ll be great for their power play.”

Is there any team a 37 goal scorer wouldn’t be a good fit with?

He's not going to score like that again. But as Shabuzz pointed out, Zuccarello is a creator. We need finishers.

Don’t think he’s that good any more but for that price it’s worth a shot.

His goal scoring pace last year would have put him around 3rd or 4th on the Stars last year. So yes, he has dropped off (and it still a dick) but compared to the rest of the roster he's good.

I hate Perry and won’t defend his dirty *poo poo*, but I’m very surprised at the salary. Even if he doesn’t work out and gets scratched a bunch, it doesn’t hurt the cap at all.

He could score zero goals and be a bargain compared to Val.

We should still get Mats. I feel like we are wasting that first round pick if we have to draft someone.

It could also work out. I mean, people thought Selanne was done in Colorado before he went back to the Ducks. It's worth a shot at such a cheap price.

Jesus, I’m going to need a minute to warm up to a Corey *fargin'* Perry being on my team. Bear with me a moment, fellas.

If we were talking about a "normal" scorer who now sucks, then sure. But this is Corey. *fargin'*. Perry.

We've had zero success bringing in league-reviled a-holes in the past, from Sean Avery to Claude Lemieux. As if losing Val didn't already mean we won't make the playoffs for another five years (minimum), now we have to deal with this chode?
