We were lucky to get as far as we did. This team had no business even making the playoffs, and we all thought as much for 2/3 of the season. We were there by the grace of a bunch of other teams shitting the bed worse than us, along with some great play from Bishop. Hard to be upset with monumental overachievement. We'll look back on this playoff run more fondly when the team regresses even further next year.

Nill has already told Jason Spezza and Methot they will not be re-signed, but he is open to negotiations with Mats Zuccarello, Roman Polak, Ben Lovejoy and Taylor Fedun.

"We are always interested in acquiring extra picks, so you never know what can happen, and you want to be prepared," Nill said. "It's just a matter of go do your job and get all the information you can, and then we'll see what happens."

And by “open to negotiations with Polak,” he means “re-signing Polak to a one year $1.75m deal.”

You ok over there, Todd?

Oh great! Nill hasn't learned a single lesson from last season at all!

Today's signings combined for nearly 8 goals of offense last season.

Just let him walk and if he wants to re-sign, pick him up cheaper.

Stars Board:

[Bottom-10 d-man in NHL signed, given raise]: "Solid move for Nill"
[Fast, young, former 19 goal scorer who actually plays defense signed for .6 mil more]: "Ridiculous! What the hell is Nill smoking?!"

I think the most positive review I saw of the Polak signing was a shoulder shrug.

I guess the real question is how much will we offer Lovejoy to be our #4. 3 million? 4 million?

We were smart to get in on Polak before the bidding from all the contenders went into the stratosphere. I think $5 mil/5 years is a good starting point for Lovejoy.

For those of you who retorted to my "still angry about the Blues making NHL history against us for non-calls" with basically "it doesn't matter because I didn't even expect the Stars to get that far": *f-bomb* YOU IT'S STILL A PROBLEM! Overachieving and being eliminated by some bullshit aren't mutually exclusive.

The *poo poo* officiating was a problem, but it wasn’t why the Stars lost. The Stars got run over two games in a row. They were manhandled, and it blows because we watched the Stars defeat the physical game three times with smart puck moving and speed. But for some reason, the legs or confidence were gone in games 6 and 7, and I don’t think two or three additional power plays change the outcome.

Game 6 I will give you despite the demoralizing Bishop is hurt goal LOL. But you really don't see how some PP's (legit ones btw) could have helped us in a 1-1 double overtime hockey game? Yes they outplayed us, but again, overachieving and being eliminated by some bullshit aren't mutually exclusive. I am a firm believer in hockey momentum.

Of course, maybe winning a puck battle or two over the final six regulation periods would have helped also.

I think you're wrong.

Momentum, guys. We brought them to the brink playing like dogshit. We had the best goalie in the league that night. The Hockey Gods dictate that the most lulz scenario was us eliminating them that game, and it would have happened too if the Blues hadn't sold their souls back in January in exchange for penalty immunity.

The Blues' play should've gotten them way more than just the two power plays they had in a game they dominated this much:

And the Blues committing penalties should've gotten us way more than just the zero power plays we had in a game they dominated that much.

Sure, but a ~20% PP doesn't guarantee a goal. And I'm not really convinced a couple of PPs would have changed how the Blues were playing.

They were playing with total immunity.
But you're right. My bad. I'm totally cool with them constantly getting away with this bullshit as recently as last night, because it was only a 1-1 Game 7 and we were playing like dogshit anyways, so why even bother with the PP or changing the momentum of the game? Hell, I'm sure all of us here didn't even flinch when Benn almost scored in OT because *f-bomb* us, right? No worries.
This is a game of inches!

Instead of childishly blaming the officials to try to make yourself feel better about your team's failure, here's another look at how your horseshit captain performed in the final two games of the series:

Knives and I pointing out (rightly) that the officiating has sucked is - wait for it - totally normal behavior for fans of a team. Calling us both childish is rude and arrogant. You've made your point and are just beating a dead horse now. Move on and let us have a conversation.
