Spezza had already fallen off in the previous season. It seems like a dubious theory.

It just seems a little suspicious to me that Spezza didn’t turn 35 under any of his previous coaches.

It's because Ruff preferred a system geared toward youth and speed.

I'm also talking about the half-dozen other guys who simultaneously all had career-worst years under the new coach. Total coincidence, I'm sure.

But they actually had career best years because they became difficult to play against finally.

You mean the one where Ritchie, Pitlick, and Janmark combined for 40 goals? Or the one prior, when Adam Cracknell outscored all but four of Monty's forwards while playing on the 4th line?

I just can't see signing Karlsson. While the Stars have some room, signing Karlsson would pretty much rule out upgrading the forward corps at all. They don't need an aging "no 1" d-man.

Plus if we sign Karlsson, we’d have to put up with Todd bitching about how Karlsson is holding back Joel Hanley.

While you are correct to pick Hanley as a Todd kind of guy because Hanley is a player who excels at advanced stats but produces zero real stats, you forget that Hanley is over 24, and Todd is our Roy Moore. He likes them when they are young and haven’t done anything.

Saw some speculation he might have a chance to fight for a lower line role in camp. Makes sense. There is going to be turnover and opportunities.

If we’re short on one thing, it’s medium-sized Euro lower line jobbers.

Low risk move. If he sucks, he can go back to Europe. If he doesn't, then he can not suck for the Stars.

If he’s even an average skater, he’s an instant upgrade over Spezza and Ritchie.

A month later and I'm still pretty raw about a few things. Some space away from the Stars hasn't healed *poo poo* considering I've been watching the Blues play on this entire time. Outside the obvious (like Benn's botched wraparound attempt in OT that will forever haunt my dreams *f-bomb*! *f-bomb*! *f-bomb*!), I'm mostly still stewing about this:

We had two chances to close out the Blues, and both of those games just so happened to coincide with them setting an NHL playoff record for longest stretch played without taking a penalty. Was it a tinfoil conspiracy? Absolutely not, but when a team is setting literal NHL records while playing against you, the frustration is just ... *f-bomb*. Really? REALLY?!

So what's the takeaway from the non-call tone being set for the Blues in Game 1 and then getting historically worse all the way up until the very end of Game 7? It's that Lindell dove for no reason, and all Bishop had to do was shake his mask off to stop the play ...

Eh. I was really angry at the time, but not now.

I didn't even expect the Stars to make the playoffs. It was a decent run all things considered and they have a chance to improve upon it next year. I'm relatively pleased with this year overall.

Bishop shaking his mask off wasn't an option. He got hit in a bad place on the shoulder, not the head. Not so easy to shake the mask off when a strap isn't popped.

It was part shitty refs, but also (mostly?) that the Stars were chasing the Blues for most of those games. Hard to get a call when you're playing defense around the net every shift.

Which was weird. They were in our head. The blues are not that much better and certainly not for the series up Until then.
