The bottom three lines are basically the punt squad. Oh, and also the top line looks like the punt squad, except on occasion they successfully pull off a fake punt.

Kudos to NJ, they were the Cadillac. Julie looked better and Hintz certainly was trying to stay in the lineup. The rest of the team looked worn out. Terrible.

I’m also a little surprised Monty didn’t pull the net minder with 12 minutes left.

If only we could have forseen the lack of secondary scoring would be an issue.

Classic rookie head coach mistake of giving his top 4 guys Zubovian minutes in the first game of a back-to-back, and then trying to ride them the same way 20 hours later. Klingberg looked like he could barely handle a pass.

Honka and Heiskanen were our two best d-men, which is... good? Bad? I'm not sure.

Polak should never be allowed in an ice rink again unless he's paying admission. Nearly every shift he got the Devils got multiple chances off rebounds and cycling, usually his guy. He's pretty good at standing cluelessly next to the side of the net not covering anybody, tho, I gotta give him that.

That said, this Devils team is...good? They've got speed, they swoop down on the puck carrier in all three zones to make routine passes difficult, and they've got excellent D and goaltending. They also have some secondary scoring issues, as one guy has potted nearly half of their entire goal total.

None of it matters. Jim Nill needs to address the issues or none of it matters at all.

What else is he going to do, get goals from Spezza, Nichushkin, or others? I think not.

Spezza whiffed on two prime chances early last night. So... theoretically, at least, it is within the realm of possibility that Spezza might score a goal sometime this season.

I think the rookie head coach mistake was accepting a job offer from the Stars.

He'll be fine. When his new GM takes over this summer, that GM will for sure give Monty another year at least.
