Bishop was *fargin'* awesome tonight.

Also our one good line was pretty fun to watch.

[I will give honorable mention to Janmark. Very noticeable play on the second line by him]

Not much of a story. While in MTL I briefly courted a girl from Yarmouth. Made the short drive to the maritimes with her. He was a lifelong neighbour (obviously still lives with his parents). This was when he was still doing his weather stuff but well before his YouTube channel absolutely exploded. Just a very friendly special needs dude. Does not like being called Frank though LOL.

I’m aware that I’m drunk on hockey’s return at the moment so all I’ll say is this:

Yes we beat the Coyotes, but last season we had a very nasty habit of not beating the teams we were supposed to (MTL/OTT/VAN etc.) and letting very valuable points slip away. We ended up missing the playoffs by 3 points. Tonight we did what we had to do and never trailed. That’s a good thing to build upon.

I'm not really sure what to make of this first game, since first games are always a bit weird and off.

But if I had to take a stab, I'd say we are going to go 82-0 this season and easily win the Stanley Cup.

Anyone else still have PTSD and think about how that game would have gone for us with Fatso in goal? Each of those three goals in 90 seconds would have been answered right back with a softie. And then he would have let in the GWG on that final PK late in the game.

Yes. Bishop was *fargin'* awesome. The difference is really obvious.

Weird game. But I'll take it.

Our top skill guys like Seguin and Klingberg looked really rusty. Benn looked fantastic outside of a bunch of soft turnovers in the first few minutes. Bishop ruled.

Heiskanen is... uhh... pretty good. From the opening shift on. *Dang ol'*.

Our second line was terrible. Comeau is NOT a top-6 guy, and Spezza is pretty much the worst forward on the roster. Our 3rd and 4th lines were ten times better than our 2nd. And why wouldn't they be? Maybe time to cut bait on Spezza entirely.

Carrick wasn't actually all that bad, especially when he had the puck. Not sure why Toronto dumped him on us. Polak was extremely noticeable, in a bad way. Methot was solid.

Weirdly, all three goals came after the WORST five-minute stretch of hockey all game for Dallas. We couldn't buy a goshdarned dagnabbed clear. I think one Polak shift I counted five consecutive failed clears. Then Benn and Heiskanen make some herculean efforts to skate it out of the zone, and viola! Dallas 3 Goals, Coyotes 2 Crossbars. I do worry that maybe Montgomery's "system" was so easy to figure out that *fargin'* Phoenix did it in just one period, but we'll see.

Polak would be great in 1995 when cross-checking people out of the crease was a thing.

Also, we are going to get smoked by the Jets on Saturday.

I think any hope Spezza would come back faster dissipated in about three shifts.

Whether this wins or not, it is a lot more fun to watch. I'll take that. Last season was *fargin'* terrible.

I think Spezza will retire after this year. He looks done.

I will say Janmark looks like he's quite good. We need 2 more guys to play with him, though.

I thought it was a fun game. Both teams were speedy and had decent control. AZ was all over the Stars to start the 2nd, and in less than two minutes a three goal lead for Dallas. We got a little lucky. Miro was delicious. Bishop was great, not in just stopping the puck, but he had it behind the net practically every shift. For a first game, quite good.

I really do wonder if they'd be better off salary dumping Spezza in a trade to a team with a ton of cap room for pretty much nothing and playing Hintz or Faksa on the second line. I saw zero offense created by Spezza during 5 on 5 play.

I saw Spezza make one really good centering pass from behind the net. Otherwise it was a pretty unremarkable showing.

Well, we can't dump him on the Coyotes after last night. They're on to us.

Does he want to sign here, though? From what I've read, he wants an LA or a Miami or a NYC.

Oh man, I must have missed it. I figured they'd leave it alone given their relationship with the Stars, and Bob's relationship with Josh. I assume they have one.

Frankie Macdonald is a youtube weatherperson who has a unique delivery to his broadcasts that made him somewhat famous for a while. When Josh gets excited for a goal, they sound similar.
