Will a half-price Spezza + Honka + Ritchie + Val be enough to get that done? Or do we have to give up something of actual value?

What does Brassard give us that we don't already have? I don't know enough about him.

Brassard is a solid second line center. He was Turgeoned in Pittsburgh, and his limited ice time on centering the third line dampened his stats.

But mostly I just remember him for this:

I remember that one. He separated his shoulder almost immediately and couldn’t fight back.

Separated shoulder or not, any guy who tries to punch James Neal in the face is a guy I want on this team.

We'd have to take equivalent salary back. Which is the bigger problem there.

Probably better 5v5 play and someone to shunt Spezza down the lineup or out of town if he wants a Cup.

Meh. He was a dude. Not that Dickinson is much more in the offensive zone, but whatever.

Adding Brassard isn't going to cost anything that matters. He's also not going to come in here and take ice time from anyone doing anything. This also isn't a long-term commitment since he's a UFA this summer, so his age doesn't matter.

I don't see any downside other than this would probably be the last move Nill could make. I guess if you were holding out hope for a trade for a real scoring winger, this takes that off the table by eating up the little bit of remaining cap space.

Posted a couple of hours ago by Elliotte Friedman.

8. I don’t think Dallas is done, either. There’ve been Brett Ritchie rumours and I think they are looking to see if anyone wants to take a chance with Valeri Nichushkin. That return’s been very disappointing. He hasn’t scored in 37 games.

I mean, the answer is yes. Whatever is being offered in return that isn't a current NHL contract is a yes. Any picks or any prospects. Anything to get that wasted $3 million off the books for next season.

Yeah. You just try to dump Nichushkin at this point. Just to get the money off the books. But, I'm not sure you could dump him for even nothing because of that money.

Count me in on Brassard. After reading up on him, it looks like it could work out.

I think we also know at this point Hitch wasn't our problem. As were any of our previous slew of coaches.

Told ya guys.

Well, it can’t be the players’ fault because they all scored tons of points in the AHL. There’s something at the NHL level that’s causing them to fail. Maybe some kind of virus?

We should get rid of all the guys who actually play hard enough to take penalties. That'll solve everything.

Here's the clue: any prospect who spends multiple seasons in the AHL isn't going to be a high end NHLer offensive producer. It doesn't matter how much a dude scores in the AHL. If he needs several seasons in the AHL to earn a promotion, he's not going to be a meaningful offensive producer in the NHL.

The guys who end up on top lines in the NHL make the jump and make it quickly.

This is what I have been saying about Gurianov. But, most Stars fans still seem to think he's going to suddenly start lighting it up in the NHL. Not likely.

See: Klingberg, John

In defense of Hintz and Gurianov, they're both young enough that having two or three AHL seasons isn't outrageous. If they don't solidify NHL roles in the next year or two, I'd give them some actual worry. But you're right, none of them are big league Tyler Seguin offensive murder machines. Those guys go straight to the NHL usually. But I mean, Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat still played two years in the AHL. The only guys in the top 50 of scoring who spent any meaningful time in the AHL from what I can see is maybe Mark Stone, Mark Giordano, and maybe Cam Atkinson.

Either they've got the talent or they don't and most of them don't. And the only way to get that is to draft it.

Oh hey Julius Honka's brother is going to be available in the 2019 draft!

Gurianov might solidify an NHL role. But, the point I think Troy was making is that he will never be a top-6 forward in the NHL because those players make the jump very quickly.

Gurianov looks like a completely different player between the NHL and the AHL. In the AHL, he is an all-star. In the NHL, he is mostly invisible and looks relatively slow.
