Yeah it's always been kinda dumb. A shootout win or loss will count as 1 goal in either direction in regards to team goal differential, but a winning shootout goal doesn't count as a goal for said player - so when you add up total player goals at the end of the season it doesn't match up. How they determine what counts as the shootout winner is also weird sometimes, for example:

Klingberg: X
Chabot: X

Heiskanen: ✓
Ryan: X

Radulov: ✓

Miro gets the credit even though Rads truly ended it with a walk off.
That Hanzal's so hurt right now.

I think this makes me more angry than happy:

The Dallas Stars are going to play a meaningful game in April for the first time in three years.

And for the first time since May 11, 2016, the Stars are going to play a home game that will extend their season, given a positive result.

The Stars have been out of the playoffs for less time than the time since Nichushkin's last goal. lol

This is all so they can have a cow standing on the sideline during the Winter Classic. NBC wants a cow. NBC gets a cow.

If the Stars make the finals, the Rangers get a 1st-round pick and the team gets fresh steak.

Does that mean they'll be wearing the mooterus sweater?

The difference between this year’s team and last year’s team is staggeringless.

Yeah, I think the biggest difference was that the Central went from the best division in hockey into the worst, like, overnight. The Jets and Perds aren't scaring anyone anymore.

Post All-Star Break through this date comparison:

2018
14-14-4 (were 28-18-4 prior to the all-star game)
-11 goal diff (down from +20 prior to the all-star game)
2.47 GF/game (down from 3.04 prior to the all-star game)
2.81 GA/game (up from 2.64 prior to the all-star game)
17.6% PP
80.0% PK

2019
18-10-3
+13 goal diff
2.55 GF/game
2.13 GA/game
20.3% PP
81.2% PK

The real fun is how big the collapse was late last season.

Seguin is tied for 29th in the league in scoring. You’d like to see him a little higher on that list, but he is pretty much right on his career pace in terms of points. Pretty good season.

Jamie, meanwhile....

There's some talk about whether Monty should rest guys or keep it going to wind down the season.

I actually think Monty should play his full forward playoff lineup for the last two games, but spread the minutes around a lot -- maybe even let the 3rd and 4th lines get the bulk of the minutes. Yeah, there are injury risks, but I think we see a vastly different lineup now with both Zuccarello and Pitlick back. I like the idea of the forwards and the new PP units getting some more time together to build more familiarity before the playoffs start.

For the defense, I'm all for playing Oleksiak and Honka the last two games. I'd even look at resting guys in pairs. Sit Lindell-Klingberg one game and then Heiskanen-Polak the next.

Bishop needs to play at least one of these last two games. I’d be very nervous putting him into Game 1 otherwise.

With his injury history I’m very nervous putting him in any game. The dude just can’t stay healthy.

Rest Benn and Zuc, limit the rest of the big names to 10-12 minutes. These last two games are literally meaningless, as we're pretty much locked in to our spot.

Nonsense. We need to prove to BigAl that we are a typical playoff team by earning 2 more points.

The Stars really aren’t a playoff team, it’s just that they’ve managed to exploit a technicality in the rules that allows teams which finish 8th place or better in their conference to be included in the post season.
It’s kind of a squirrelly way to get in when you think about it.

Doesn’t look like we are going to catch the Isles for the Jennings unless they get completely torched during their remaining 5 periods.
