Looks like a little Russian lineup change against Tampa. Otherwise the same stuff.

I got a ranch in downtown Dallas/I buy diamonds by the ton/Chase cuties in my Cadillac/Drill oil wells just for fun/But when it comes to boots, I need a deal/That will fit me right, toe to heel/So I get my boots at Western Warehouse.

Even if Gurianov doesn't score, he's ten times more dangerous and fun to watch. He's a much better player.

He will contribute. Eventually. I'm not saying he's going to be Seguin, but it's obvious he's got something.

I like him, but as desperate as this team is for goals, I WANT GOAL NOW.

Todd in 2025: Look, this fifth straight coaching regime hasn’t given Gurianov a fair chance. He has talent and it will show eventually, he just needs some time on the top line.

Five coaches in 6 years? That's probably accurate.

The team's goal scoring goes like this:
Big three
#4 d-man
#5 checking line center
#6 d-man
#7 d-man

Nill has to do something. This is *fargin'* crazy.

Yeah, you can understand how when one of the big 3 starts to produce less it's a huge fiasco. No depth.

Would rather leave Gurianov in the lineup than Nichushkin.

L'Esperance called up.

Hopefully this one doesn't leave his hockey skills behind in Cedar Park.

I'm not going to learn how to spell his name until he scores a goal.

He at least has 27 goals and 42 points in 49 games. Worth a shot.

According to the Dallas Stars AHL to NHL conversion chart I have, that translates to approximately 0.6 goals and 4 assists at the NHL level in the same number of games.

SaintAngerBH wrote:What are xgoals?

xGoals measures the relationship between distance from the net and shooting percentage.

Shooting closer to the net gives you a better chance to score. The difference in shooting percentage between shooting 10 feet away from the net and 40 feet away is an impressive 12.5% difference. 7 years of tangible NHL data tells us that you are 6 times more likely to score from 10 feet away then from 40 feet. This is the basis on which xGoals was created.

By measuring the distance at which a player takes a shot, xGoals records the shooting percentage from the shot distance. For example a shot from 40 feet gives around a 2.5% chance of scoring a goal; this is equal to an xGoal score of 0.025. Statistics tell us that this particular player will have to shoot 40 times from 40 feet out to score 1 goal.

So if player x shoots 40 times from 40 feet he gets 1 xGoal. From this basic idea, we are able to predict the amount of goals every single player on every single team will get based on historical shooting percentage.

That's a dopey stat.

"7 years of tangible NHL data tells us that you are 6 times more likely to score from 10 feet away then from 40 feet".
A 7 year old's eyes and brain would tell you the same thing.

"It's hard to score goals right now. You watch games, every team seems to be in playoff mode right now," Nill said. "Every game seems to be 2-1, 3-2 right now. It's hard to score goals...”

No, Jim. I think the Lightning and the Hurricanes showed pretty well that it’s easy enough to score goals. It’s hard for the Stars to score goals because of the roster you’ve created that values size over skill.

Speaking of....

"We have real good size. We're a heavy team. We play hard. And when we play the right way, we can match up against anybody because of our speed and our size. We're getting outstanding goaltending. And I think our back end, with the evolution of (rookie defenseman) Miro Heiskanen added to John Klingberg and Esa Lindell and the young guys who have stepped in, defense has become one of our strengths. Our goaltending and our defense probably have been the biggest surprises for us.

Can we just fire this asshole already? Size, size, size. How big is Kucherov or Point or DeBrincat or Barzal or Connor?

It's not just a size thing. When all but one of your forwards is having a career-low year and all but one of your d-men is having a career-high year, then obviously it's a system thing.

D-men are actively encouraged to press the attack, and as a result they're all scoring way above expectations. But when they do, a forward has to hang back and play defense, and they all do (other than our top line), which dampens their offensive stats but makes sure we hardly ever give up odd man rushes.

We could trade for Kucherov tomorrow and instantly his stats would be cut in half.

Either Nill is hiding his cards or he's just batshit crazy at this point.

He forgot Bustchushkin and an injured Pitlick, and Gurianov. And Hintz. None of them are scoring at any sort of real pace.

No one's scoring at all.

At this point, I think it's both a system and personnel problem.
