https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/11/11/lt_com_dan_crenshaw_accepts_apology_from_snls_pete_davidson.html

Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson apologizes to Congressman-elect and former Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw for a joke he made about his war-caused disability on last week's show. Crenshaw lost his eye to an IED while he was fighting in Afghanistan during his third combat tour. He accepted Davidson's apology and asked viewers to never forget the sacrifice made by those who serve in uniform.

I haven't watched SNL since like 2001 so I had no idea who he was until I heard about this on the news. SNL blows, BTW.

It’s going to be hilarious if the Blue Jackets miss the playoffs.

I think it might have a bad affect on GMs overall, tho. 99% of them are already terrified of taking risks, and all we as fans need is a GM doing nothing at the deadline and pointing to the BJs and saying "See?"

Also, they put up 7 goals on Boston today, which nudges us closer to the Jennings trophy.

Ovechkin hit 1200 points tonight and Malkin hit 1000, in the same game. Oddly enough, Ovechkin’s 1000th point was against the Penguins, too.

No kidding. I hope the Blue Jackets go far. For starters, their poor fans deserve to see some good playoff hockey, but also, I want teams to be okay with making trades.

I like the BJ's aggressiveness, but those weren't the players they really should have gone all-in for. Duchesne just seems cursed to make every team he's on significantly worse (while still putting up good stats... basically the A-Rod of hockey).

I see it more as them going all in on Panarin and Bobrovski. The hockey media desperately wanted the Jackets to sell their UFAs who are for sure leaving in the summer because hockey media loves trades, and instead the Jackets made moves to add around them.

Also, keeping both and adding two big targets was surprising, and we need more surprising things in hockey.

A comparison of the 1995-96 Red Wings to the 2018-19 Lightning. It's an interesting read.

Spoiler - the Lightning are really, really, really, really good. Kucherov is insane.

A good comparative number for forwards is Points Share, an estimated number of points (in standings) contributed to the team based on a player’s offensive and defensive play.

Kucherov is good for 15.7 (15.7!), Point is 13.7, and Stamkos is 11.4. That's insane with just three players.

https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/ ... -nhl-great

Quick: name all the players who’ve won a regular-season and playoff MVP. The list is a dozen names long: Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, Ovechkin, Beliveau, Bobby Orr, Guy Lafleur, Joe Sakic, Bryan Trottier, Mark Messier, Patrick Kane and Malkin.

Now let’s shorten the list to guys with a Hart, a Conn Smythe and an Art Ross. It’s 10 names long: Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, Ovechkin, Beliveau, Orr, Lafleur, Trottier, Kane and Malkin.

How about guys with a Hart, Conn Smythe, Art Ross and three or more Stanley Cups? It’s down to seven : Gretzky, Crosby, Beliveau, Lafleur, Trottier, Kane and Malkin.

One more! Guys with a Hart, Conn Smythe, Art Ross, three or more Cups and a Calder Trophy. We get Trottier, Kane and Malkin. Three players.

Take a minute to process all these accomplishments from Geno. Now remember that the NHL LEFT MALKIN OFF THE LIST FOR TOP 100 PLAYERS OF ALL-TIME in 2017.

I mean. That just looks like a regular Mike Modano goal from the 90's to me.

Connor has definitely scored prettier goals.

re: Tobias Rieder

The Landshut, Germany native signed a one-year-$2 million contract with the Oilers ahead of the current campaign, but he has been held goalless over 59 games so far.

"Toby Rieder will not be signed by the Edmonton Oilers at the end of this year," Oilers CEO Bob Nicholson said at a season-ticket-holders event. "Toby Rieder was a player that other teams wanted ..."

"Toby Rieder hasn't scored a goal [this year]," Nicholson said. "Toby Rieder has missed so many breakaways. If Toby Rieder would have scored 10 or 12 goals, we'd probably be in the playoffs."

He later had to apologize for his comments but I appreciate his candor.
I'd love to see Nill throw Nichuskin under the bus like that during his exit interview.

Ovechkin with his 8th 50-goal season. One more 50-goal season and he ties Gretzky and Bossy for most 50-goal seasons in NHL history. If he can average 36 goals a year over the next seven seasons, he'll beat Gretzky's record.

That's a tall order - he's not getting any younger. But if he can bank another couple of 50-goal seasons, that drops the number. I hope he does - it would be just insane to see.

Ovechkin's goal numbers are far more impressive than Gretzky's, but Canadian media would never say it.

On Saturday the CBC guys did agree that Ovechkin was the best “goal scorer” in the history of the game. One mentioned that had Bossy played more games, he could have had more goals. (Nine 50 goal seasons, out of 10 played) The game in Ovechkin’s time has been more stifling, I think. Eight 50 goal seasons is amazing.
