The bye weeks only made sense when the NHL was going to the Olympics and not every *fargin'* year.

Disagree. Anything to help get some of our players healed up more quickly.

Disagree. Anything to give me a week free of the pain and frustration of following the Stars.

I think the prevailing opinion is that the bye week actually causes MORE injuries. Vacating an entire week means compressing the rest of the schedule, which means more back to backs, 3 in 4 nights, and crazy travel schedules.

Oh, damn. I figured they would just end the season a little later. Never mind.

Is there a trade freeze during a team's bye week?

Don't think so, but that sure would be a mean thing to do to a guy.

Judging by the organization's actions in recent weeks, I don't think they'd really care if it was mean lol

The Oilers finally fired Chiarelli.

(which lines him up perfectly to replace Nill at the end of the year)

I was really hoping to see a trade deadline with Chiarelli desperate to save his job.

Holy *poo poo*, I didn't realize Chiarelli had signed a 30-year-old goalie with less than 40 games of NHL experience to a 3-year, $4.5MM/year contract. That's batshit crazy even for Chiarelli.

Another team within 5 points of the Stars cleaning house.

I think Chiarelli's moves have been much more disastrous than Nill's, but at the same time, Chiarelli got 3.5 years and then the boot. I'm not a fan of the slowness with which the Stars move on these things. Even if we barely scrape into the playoffs, I would very much like a mass front office firing and reworking this summer.

I'm pretty sure if Nill had traded Seguin straight-up for Adam Larssen, he wouldn't have made it to his fourth year either.

We should replace Nill with Chiarelli because Chiarelli has won a Cup.

Whoof.

https://theathletic.com/266165/2018/03/ ... -the-same/

The question: If Chiarelli were on the open market today, would the Oilers make him their GM over the other available candidates?

Having reviewed the last three years of Chiarelli’s track record, there can be only one answer to that question: No.

In virtually every area, we see Chiarelli’s negative influence on the Oilers roster.

He has inherited his best pieces, and his overall work managing their contracts has been mediocre. He has made three big trades for roster players, handily losing two of them. His three most important free agent signings are either already liabilities or stand a strong chance of becoming problems in the near future. Moreover, his moves involving pieces not currently on the roster have badly damaged Edmonton’s ability to compete for the Stanley Cup.

The Hall trade alone would be plausible ground to eliminate him from consideration, even if he were passable in all other areas. The stunning thing is that even if we take that trade of a current Hart candidate out of the equation, the damage he has inflicted on the team is considerable and also arguably grounds for termination.

It’s crazy to think that Ovechkin even has a shot at Gretzky’s record.
