We're having a fairly good preseason at 4-0-1. I feel a bit of optimism, even in a tough division. Get off to a good start. Hope for good health.

-Monty turns out to be a good coach
-Heiskanen turns out to be a great pick and a productive/elite NHLer
-Val is actually improved and ready to contribute
-Spezza rebounds
-Janmark's knee doesn't explode
-Methot stays healthy and plays well
-Bishop stays healthy and plays well
-Honka turns out to be a useful player

You need virtually EVERY one of those questions marks to break in our favor in order to even be in the mix for a wild card spot.

I would settle for Jamie Benn showing up when it counts, even if it's only for a shift or two.

As someone said, we know what Nill thinks of this roster with how hard he went chasing Tavares and Karlsson.

Oh yeah, add to our list that we need everything on every other team’s list to go wrong.

We need a second line. We have our second line from two years ago but the most important guy sucked last year. Fix that and we’d be fine. Add another dude during the season.

Our defense could be actually improved this season.

..

One thing Scotty Bowman used to say is when you're on top, you're closer than you think from it all crashing down. And when you're on the bottom, you're not as far away from winning as you think. A couple of changes...

Seriously, one more decent scorer would make a huge difference. Surely they could package a pick, Val, and Ritchie and get someone.

I'm not all that worried about our defense. It's not gonna be the best ever, but having plenty of guys who can actually control the puck on zone exits should help tremendously. We had some decent defenders last year who would just turn it over instead of exiting the zone and I'll bet that led to more goals against than Honka will give up by being out of position or whatever. Plus, all those turnovers meant less time on offense so the chances of us scoring goals was way down too.

Is Panarin still on the block? That would be nice.

Nill is happy with where the team is. What are you all so worried about?

This alone is worth another 2-4 points in the standings. When Bishop got hurt and Lehtonen became the every game starter, the season fell apart.

-Monty turns out to be a good coach - good chance, at least until the players tune him out.

-Heiskanen turns out to be a great pick and a productive/elite NHLer - definitely yes.

-Val is actually improved and ready to contribute - not holding my breath, but hoping Rads helps.

-Spezza rebounds - some rebound is expected from a low low, and it is a contract year.

-Janmark's knee doesn't explode - only Janmark knows.

-Methot stays healthy and plays well - not as important as last season, there are replacements available.

-Bishop stays healthy and plays well - total crap shoot.

-Honka turns out to be a useful player - he will, as a player or trade bait.

I think slaps was being sarcastic. Nill doesn't offer up half of the bottom of his roster for a rental d-man if he's happy with his roster.

The Stars posted a photo of Janmark riding one of the new rental scooters downtown, and all I could think about was the risk to his knee.

Nill repeatedly said this offseason that he's "happy with where the roster is."

I'm glad this team's playoff hopes hinge on *squints* a 35 year old center somehow getting better and KHL player that was routinely scratched
