I do. The best teams should be duking it out for the cup. The current system is ridiculous.

I can't name one time in the last 20 years that the best two teams met in the Cup final. When we had #1 vs #8, we still got unbelievably shitty series like Avs vs Panthers. And I might be wrong, but the epic Red Wings vs Avs series I think was in the second round, no?

It's almost like possession and success are correlated.

1 vs 8 was much simpler, and didn't have the stupid division crossover thing. Otherwise, as silly as the new system is, I've seen a lot more incredible playoff series over the past few years, it seems like.

And Capitals versus Lightning isn't exactly a bad team versus a a great team (despite how it looks now). For that matter, the Knights were a top team all season, just like the Jets.

I'll only care about the playoff seeding when it affects the Stars getting to the Cup with the easiest possible path. You know, since we're going to be amazing next year. I really am excited to try a new coach.

Of the Capitals defenders who played in the playoffs, Alzner was seventh in time on ice per game. He also only played 7 of 13 games.

I also think he was overpaid for being a dude, but their success isn't because they swapped out the least played member of last season's d corps.

I only bring this up because I don't want us to get too excited about what replacing Pateryn with Honka will accomplish. Pateryn may also just be a dude, but he wasn't why the Stars sucked.

The only thing I'm excited about is testing the theory that the Stars can take any talented person and immediately lay waste to whatever inherent talent they possess. I'm giving it 50/50 odds we are back to dump and chase and rim it out hockey by Thanksgiving under Montgomery, with Methot seeing top-line minutes and Heiskanen in the press box.

I wish the NHL would mic up coaches and players on a regular basis. it's just so awesome.

That's pretty funny. Most often heard refrain in hockey is "Skate!" followed closely by "Move your feet!"

Tampa was looking dead there, but it’s a series again. Poor Washington fans.

Wow, I was so wrong about this series.

Connor Hellasuck is the Achilles heel of the Jets. A weak one at that.

I don't feel so bad about losing the first game of the season to them anymore.

I love Fleury. He’s so relaxed after winning Cups two years in a row. This has to be a total blast for him.

And don’t look now, but Washington might get Washingtoned, losing the first two games and then winning four straight. TB just needs one more.

I'm still holding out hope that Fleury shits the bed or gets injured.

Nah, he's too busy leading his team to the Stanley Cup Finals. He should be front runner going in to win MVP.

I’m not a fan of this expansion team BS, but Boy Howdy does this make the Panthers organization looks bad.

I think it comes from a general feeling that they haven't "earned" it. By, like, losing a lot first.

Again, it's mostly just bitterness due to the fact that your team is most likely instantly less successful than theirs, both in terms of results and in terms of roster building. It's actually a fun story.

On the other hand, they have Neal, who is a piece of *poo poo*, so that can be an acceptable reason to not like them.

Not really. I was annoyed with it when I thought the Stars might make a run earlier in the year. I'm annoyed because they got several advantages that former expansion teams were not given due to the salary cap era. As I said earlier, there should be a big fat asterisk next to their season for that.

Plus, they have Cody Eakin and a former Penguin doing a brick wall impression in goal. That alone is enough to hate their guts.

What advantages? Literally everyone picked them to be dead last, or close to it, at the beginning of the season. It's pretty revisionist to go back now and say it's unfair because they have all these so-called advantages over previous expansion teams.

Everyone also thought they’d suck because everyone was looking at prior expansion drafts and not this one.

But I expect Seattle to get the same system because the owners are getting rich off of this.

They already said the rules will be the same for Seattle, but I doubt all of the GM's fall for the same trickery on the part of the Seattle GM.

And while the rules were different for Vegas, all teams had the opportunity to protect their top players. Vegas got a bunch of castoffs that the teams didn't consider good enough to keep.
